I just got a broken xt cheap, it looks like it has a blown diode and two fried resistors. ( was this a common problem? was there no polarity protection? )

I need to try and find the schematics for the io board for the XT. I already emailed Waldorf but apparently during the bankruptcy they lost all the parts and manuals. I have also emailed hardware developer Frank Schneide but have not herd back....

Its probably a long shot but dose anyone have a service manual or schematics?

I don't have the manuals, but you could try VintageSynth forum, which has links to several manuals (the links are in one of the sticky threads). Also try the Waldorf forum, and ask if someone could help you out by checking inside their XT for part specifications. I'd do this myself, if I had an XT.

Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know that VintageSynth had a forum. I found a guy there that has a lot of service manuals and schematics, its going to cost me $5 bucks for a download but he is the only one that I have seen that has the info that I need.

Here is the URL if anyone needs it. http://www.muzikelektronix.com/sm&sch.html

Cool, hope it works out for you. Thanks for posting the follow up.

You could still try the Waldorf forum, and see if anything turns up within a few days.

Anyway, $5 seems OK, if the information is good.

Hi,

Did you end up managing to fix this one? Did you manage to get a decent copy of the manual?

I still haven't had the xt shipped to me yet.

I am going to be moving next month and at this point I am going to wait before I add on to my studio.

Still haven't located a xt service manual or schematic. Looks like muzikel ektronix's just moved and are having a hard time finding them.

Waldorf tech doc's are just imposable to get your hands on. I am just going to have to figure it out. Its going to be a easy fix so I am not that worried about it.

I am still looking and who knows maybe something will turn up.

Hi,

Just noticed you're located in Taiwan; how's the electronic music scene there? What kind of music are doing, by the way?

Hopefully those floods aren't cramping your style too much.

Cheers,

Oli

I lived in San Francisco for 10 years and SF is hard to beat as far a Music scene. But so many people are doing it that I think people just take it for granted.

EM never really came into its own out here. I am into indie-electronic/IDM which is known amongst the students who traveled overseas and ex-pats that live here but there is no homegrown scene to speak of.

EM music here in Taiwan manly focuses on the club scene with house and trance being pretty ubiquitous. There is also, electro, Drum and Bass, minimal techno ect... but again its students who traveled overseas and ex-pats that make up the scene. I am not dissin' students or ex-pats but I am just saying that the Taiwanese have not embraced EM music like you see in the west.

The kids out here are manly into hip-hop which I think is cool. I see them starting to tap into the local culture as opposed to copying the west.

I am excited to be out here and soon to be an owner of a xt. I might be one of the only ones out here with a XT. Very Happy

James

Ps: The floods sucked, but the global outreach of help was awesome.

Hi James,

That's an interesting take on the scene in Taiwan. I've spent some time in China, and I think the situation is fairly similar. I saw some Chinese club DJs, but didn't think all that much of what they were doing. There are some clubs more oriented to the European scene, which I really appreciated. They are a lot more interesting to me than anything in my home town of Perth, Australia.

The hip hop scene seems to have more appeal to urban kids in China. The American media is influential. I think it ties in with the basketball phenomenon as well. I was pretty disappointed to see kids wagging school, getting into skating and graffiti though. I don't think that's such a positive influence there. Chinese culture has traditionally treated education as a valuable opportunity, which I have a lot of respect for.

I think it's great when people take to hip hop, but relate it to their own scene, as you mentioned is happening in Taiwan. Cool. Good things can come of that.

I tried going shopping for gear in China a few times, but didn't see much of interest there. I don't really know where to look though. There is DJ gear. I was rather amused to see SL 1210's with GOLD TRIM!! Hehehe. That's so Chinese/Hong Kong. I thought it was brilliant. It was done well too. Looked pretty good. That was some years back now.

Cheers man,

Oli

edit - I think Japan probably has the most mature electronic music scene in Asia, and plenty of gear to be had too. If you get the chance, maybe check out Tokyo, and the upstairs markets in Akihabara. I haven't made it there yet, myself, but am dead keen to go.

It may have been a common problem jwilsey, the psu i was using with my xt just died and i accidentally tried one with the wrong polarity, diodes appear to be ok but the resistors on the small board either side of where the power socket is are fried Sad

I don;t suppose you/anyone managed to find the schematics or service manual? Or even just could tell me what value of resistors i need?

Try the Waldorf forum on Yahoo.
There are many very knowledgeable people there, and Waldorf monitors the forum since they are reacting to issues with Blofeld & Largo.
There is a company in Santa Barbara, CA Usa that services Waldorf gear, but I would hope you can find something closer.

Thanks cappy.

I've tried the yahoo XT forum, which is a bit dead, but perhaps a general waldorf one will be better. Let me give it a shot.

Do you have a link for that? There are 1000+ groups that search up for Waldorf, but as soon as i try 'waldorf synth' i just get specific ones :~

Try this mail list instead
http://www.waldorf-forum.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/user-forum

This is the one I was referring to. It's much more active than the Yahoo list.

Hey, Crazy

I still don't have my xt out here, I am waiting to move to my new place before I get it shipped.

muzikelektronix was a dead end, they lost a lot of data due to some hardware failure and cant find the hardcopy.

I hope that there is a chance that when I desolder the dead resistors and that the PCBs side survived so I can read the code. Or find a picture of a working I/O board.

Here is a pict of someone with the same problem. http://www.sequencer.de/blog/synthesizer/2007/05/mwburnedja4.jpg

Hi Jwilsey,

Yeah, i've seen that pic, so i guess not just us this happens to.

You might want to have a look at this thread, i think we've managed to crack what the parts are:

http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=2450086

All been well gonna try the repair this weekend once i've got the bits, so will let you know how it goes.

Hello everyone!
Those that seem resistances I heard on other forums that are indundanze,
hanche I have an XT with one of those burned it replaced with a resistance 48hom but I always have the same problems after 30 minutes is not able to control what appear resistances are not from what I understand they are only indundanze to avoid eddy current the problem is that look like resistors and you burn when you attack a transformer with the wrong polarity.

And also I have waited one year to get my Q rack sent by an encoder not working! After one year I go home with the same problem. Why is not the encoder is broken but the XT and the Q poorly designed capacitors have not put right and then you are with the encoder jumping 10-15-40-127 ........ because, by what I have learned in recent years of eddy current.
you have to find the right value and replace them with one of these fair value clearly ....
http://www.conrad.it/ce/it/product/501560/Induttanza-RF-radiale-Misura-modulo-15-mm-470-H-25-Epcos-INDUTTORE-HF-LBC-470-UH-5-1-pz the value is wrong now covering this example I've seen pictures on the internet where you read well the colors
If I said tell me stupid and sorry for bad English
Best regards Gabriele
