Operator Subject description: Missing explanations in manual |
|
|
In the user manual there is no explanation for two parameters of the operator module: the sync button and the freq input. Does anybody know how this two parameter works? |

On this module, the Freq input is the FM input referred to in the manual.
I believe that the Sync button, when turned on, will reset/restart the oscillator waveform with a note on trigger. Otherwise the oscillator will free run. _________________ varice |

But there is a red FM input on the top left corner... |

Oops! You are right…
The Freq input is connected to the Pitch Envelope Generator and LFO sections of the DX factory preset patches, so it appears to be a control rate frequency modulation input. _________________ varice |

After investigating this a little more, it appears that there may be other errors in the manual describing the inputs.
The Pitch input does not work as described in the manual. It instead works just like the Pitch input of the other G2 oscillator modules (e.g. a value of +12 units will shift the pitch up one octave, doubling the frequency). The Freq input actually works more like what is described in the manual for the Pitch input.
The FM input is not really a frequency modulation input, but rather a phase modulation input.

Here is how the Freq input appears to work:
A value of 0 units at the Freq input will stop the Operator from oscillating (0 Hz). A value of +32 units will result in zero frequency offset (will oscillate normally). A value of +64 units will result in a doubling of oscillator frequency (up one octave in pitch). A value of -32 units will result in zero frequency offset, but the oscillator waveform will be 180 degrees out of phase in relation to an input value of +32 units. A value of -64 units will result in a doubling of oscillator frequency, but the oscillator waveform will be 180 degrees out of phase in relation to an input value of +64 units. The Freq input responds to any value from -256 to +256 units. _________________ varice |

You are welcome
And thank you for asking the questions … They really did need to be answered after all... _________________ varice |
