Mackie sdr24/96 problem |
|
|
Hi all
Bought this second hand, very cheap in new condition, boxed. Apparently it never worked from new.
Well, I've completely dismantled the machine, checked the BIOS battery (3.2v) checked the continuity of all vales and re-assembled. On boot up, the machine usually shows the correct screen, but none of the buttons respond. All the power rails are correct. Very occassionally, the display shows the error message "innit fault (m) SDR halted. Does anyone know what this means please? Can't find it in any manuals. I have contacted the chap who is the guru on the other 2 models of Mackie recorders, but has no relevant info on this message, or indeed the SDR model
Oh yes, got to ask, could the operating system be corrupt, and where is it stored pleased? How do I re-format the had? Same as the dry and HDR?
I'm now re-reading the manuals to try and grasp fully how it works and how to do these things...I'm an old rust and plstic(audio tape) person unfortunately!
I'll shut up now
Do I need to re-install bios? Could this be a had fault, and indeed, is any boot up info held on the hd?
I was told some boards from new we're faulty, I guess that could be it
I don't want to retire this machine, as I'm determined to fix it!
Many thanks for reading this, and I will update with anything that happens. I'm sure there are others out there that still want use there machines |

Hard to say exactly what is going on. If it's sat for a while the bios may have become corrupted or components may have started to fail (caps for example). Is the hard disk spinning up? Could be a corrupted OS. I believe you download different OS versions here:
https://supportloudtech.netx.net/loud-public/#category/16192
There are some tech notes as well. Does it appear that there may have been some options installed and possibly removed? If so the machine may be trying to initialize them but can't because they're no longer present. When selling gear some people will remove in-demand options and sell them seperately to ake more money... If this is a possibility then an OS install would be the way to go. Been a lng time since I've seen a SDR...do you load the OS via floppy disk? If so make sure the floppy drive is initializing too.
Hope some of this helps... _________________ Dave

Hi
Thanks very much for that, some good tips
Not sure how you reload is or change bios , I'm sure it's somewhere in the manual

I used to have two MDR/HDRs and from what I remember there was either a menu to access the floppy or you turned the machine on while the update disk was in the floppy. I think that info should be in one of the manuals. _________________ Dave

Hi Dave
Appreciate the reply
The SDR is completely different to the Mdr and HDR, it's not even made by Mackie, also non std mother board!
Seems some more investigation is required
I will keep the group informed |
