Classitronic and Classitronica |
|
|
I just encountered these terms, but too late in the game it appears.
In most cases I've found "classitronic" referred to "classical" music played on synthesizers, for example "Switched On Bach" and "Snowflakes are Dancing" by Carlos and Tomita.
And I found instances of "classitronica" referring to new original synth music that is influenced by orchestral music, for example "Electronic Realizations for Rock Orchestra" and "Sequencer" by Synergy.
I thought I'd found my genre, for although my music doesn't contain different movements within a piece, the layers and sounds are obviously influenced by decades of exposure to orchestral and chamber music.
But the only site dedicated to these conjoined twin genres is now a ghost site. Most of its links are dead and the last updates to the homepage are from January 2012.
Not only did the original 1970s "orchestral" synth music fail to dominate the world, despite my prediction that it would, but its comeback was a fizzle, too. _________________ AEJOTZ is pronounced "A-Jotz"

So have you found your genre or not?
Classitronica is going to be my genre once I stop sucking at electronic music. I don't care if it's dead, I need to live somewhere. It would be nice to at least have one other person to be weird with
Anyway, thanks so much for introducing me to Synergy. |

The genre question is interesting. If I was squarely in one, I'd start breaking rules to get out of it. But since I don't have one, I can't tell people what kind of music I play.
Typically, I tell people that I play synthesizer music. This usually evokes a look of fear or a "what's that smell?" expression, depending on their experiences with synth music. When I offer to play them an example recording they usually back away with a "no, that's OK..." They won't even give it a chance.
In a way it's kind of cool that I'm the only person in the world making AEJOTZ music. It was lonelier before I found electro-music.com. No two artists are quite the same here yet we all get along quite well. _________________ AEJOTZ is pronounced "A-Jotz"
