Hey folks.

Tracks are here :

soundcloud.com/jeffgillson/tracks

I wrote a trance album this year, prior to this endeavor I had spent about 12 years primarily as a gigging keyboard player, playing bars, clubs, a few weddings, casinos, chuch gigs, some studio work etc..

I had been a DJ back in college and by a mix of dumb luck and reckless ambition managed to get some very choice NYC club gigs including a weekly sets at Limelight and Tunnel and gigs at Exit, Roxybury and some raves.

DJing lead quickly to producing and at the time I wrote about 50 tracks with a close friend. I was completely obsessed with producing tracks at the time for a good 2-3 years but eventually the bug to play live got a hold of me and I started playing bass, then keyboards in bands and spent the rest of my 20's as a full time musician in Los Angeles.

Now having come full circle, and picking up a music degree at William Paterson along the way, I am once again pouring my heart and soul into electronic tracks. My music studies in particular, as well as my music playing experiences have left me loving chords and harmony and melody and the emotions that they can create and interact with and for me trance is the electronic music genre that offers me the best platform to put my experience and studies to good use.

I try to write songs that are melodic and musical, I strive to avoid excessive repetition (my songs tend to have several changes in chord progression, verse, pre chorus, chorus, bridge, etc) I was heavily influence by certain trance artists including Paul Van Dyk, Oakenfold, Sasha and Digweed, ATB... so there is a certain "Classic trance" vibe which I think comes through in my tracks- for now I am embracing it and the "nostalgic" feel that sometimes comes out in my songs.

I am hoping to release this album and many more, so I am VERY interested in any feedback that you could give, the more detailed and specific, the better. I am going to keep writing no matter what happens and continue to pursue my goal of getting my music out to the masses and actually selling some records (MP3s I suppose)

Thanks for clicking, hope you like the music!!

Wow, that quite the introduction, Jeff! It's nice to meet your acquaintance! You seem to have quite the extensive background, and I could definitely hear your experience in your music! Welcome to electro-music! :D

I'm not a HUGE fan of trance or GOA/PSY music, but I certainly have an appreciation for it, and someday I'll try to make at least one trance song. I've always wanted to try that genre.....but I'd have to be mentally prepared before tackling the genre, as my personal style is not exactly geared for trance, but I am malleable enough to give it a go. :)

Now as for your music that you've linked; I must admit that ALL THREE of them are really really awesome!! It's difficult for me to choose a favorite; it's a close tie between Hyperdrive and Molly's Magic Carpet. Hyperdrive is cool trance/cyber while Molly's Magic Carpet is a great blend of harmonious trance. I'd probably have to go with Molly's Magic Carpet if I HAD to choose only one. :)

Magnificent work, sir!! :D

Thanks TripMX for the kind words.

I would definitely encourage you to try your hand at trance, or any other style that interests you, you will become a better writer/producer by doing so. I have tried various styles, in many cases because it was a paid gig and plenty of other cases just to see if I could write something that sounded like a certain style or vibe that I was after.

It is a great exercise and I guarantee you will pick up something that you can add to your "bag of tricks".

Thank you for the encouragement, I'll definitely give it a try someday! Also, be sure to keep us posted on any more of your work that you want us to hear! Very Happy
