Subject description: A gift to EM-ers!
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Hello Everyone,

I know a few people have asked recently about the Reprint Collection from twenty years ago. So I bit the bullet tonight and scanned the masters for you (which took 18,257 hours). Sort of a gift for 2017 to the EM crowd. You can download it for free from my public Google Drive folder:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bx5_5krPS9HMcThRRHRObjRwMUk/view?usp=drivesdk

Be forewarned, it's a big .pdf file, at 116 MB. When I tested the download on Firefox, I found it failed three times before coming through intact. Also, you'll get a note that Google can't open it or scan it, but it downloads just fine to be saved locally.

I hope you get some good out of these 38 articles on electronic music circuitry (over 150 pages). And be sure to the see the CEM3340 VCO articles, since that chip seems to be available once again. Obviously, don't reprint, republish or sell anything yourself; this collection is for you, the individual to use.

Free, and I mean it. On the other hand, you won't hurt my feelings if you'd like to make a small donation to defray my liquor bill as I labored at the scanner tonight. You can do so so via PayPal at:

https://PayPal.me/THReprints

And hey, keep in mind that these begin when I first got started in the synth biz. I'd like to think I'm a better writer now!

Have fun

Thank you Thomas! That's a really nice gift...

Btw. Is there any chance you or some distributor/publisher would reprint your previous books on good old fashioned analog paper? Or is there an known source, who still sells them?
Asking this because i'm in that sense very conservative... ignoring smart phones, tablets, E-Books and prefer records and never bought a music file...
Prefer mainly physical goods...

Cheers Bastian

Thank you, gentlemen! It's nice to hear you found the reprints useful.

I've sort of lost control of all my books. But I believe you can still obtain many of them in print through a service called Lulu. Perhaps some reader will chime in here and explain the procedure for ordering. Like I say, I have no idea myself. And I do understand the love of a paper book; I always read with a pencil in hand to make annotations.

And Bastian, thank you very much for the generous contribution! That's the first royalty I've gotten in a decade! Thanks.

Thomas Henry

Tried to donate, but two different browsers, after initially taking me to the page naming you and giving your location, when I log into Paypal, lose that information and it won't let me proceed, see attached screenshot.

Any ideas?

Hey Thomas, thanks for the tip with Lulu will have a look after it.

No need to thank for the contribution as it's very small compared to what you had given the DIY community over the years...

I have dozens of stripboards stuffed into my cabinets with such beautiful circuits as your 555VCO, 4046VCO, the 555AD/AR, the 555 LFO Controller, the X-fader to name just a few... Have a lot of fun playing with them, waiting until the muse of Inspiration kisses me... which she probably never won't... but hey, even if i'm lacking all musical talents i still have a cool system... Very Happy

Well, I'm pretty new at PayPal, but I just reconfirmed my account email address and it appears to be working now. I think...

And hey, thanks to everyone. Scanning a 150 page book was a nasty experience, so I'm pleased to learn it was worth it to you.

Is everyone able to download the file okay? I'm also pretty new at using Google Drive, so tell me if I'm screwing up.

also i would like to thank you for your astonishing 555 VCO design.
I built one yesterday, and i am starting to really appreciate its vintage tone.
I've built many many VCO s but none of the was in the league of your design, in my humble opinion.
Just about what i was looking for Smile Smile

As short information, both links, for download and PayPal, worked fine for me. I'm using IE if that matters.

And Thomas, as you're new to PayPal, beware there are many scam and phishing mails around stating they are from PayPal.
Many of them are not detected as those and therefore make it maybe into your regular mail folder.
If there are any mails about confilcts with payments or the Status of your account, better ignore them and check your account by normal log in.
Okay have to notice, that my mail adress was among a list of adresses from someones mail account which got hacked and since then i could have bought ton's of viagra and have won several times bigger amounts of money, and so on... Wink

This is another thank-you (two actually) to Mark H. and Ronald N. for your generosity. I tried to figure out a way to send a personal thanks on EM, but the search for your names came up zilch. I'm not very good at this web/forum business in any event.

Anyway, both of your supports and kind wishes are greatly appreciated! I'm delighted you found something useful in the stuff.

Hey Robert K.,

Thanks for the kind gift, and also for the mention in your write-up. That surely took me by surprise! When you get a chance, shoot me a PM here and let me send you some stuff you might find useful for that.

And again, thanks for your generosity,

Thomas Henry

Holy smokes! Great download!

Thanks TH! I think more than anyone else out there your work has really gotten me into enjoying analog electronics and old synth design. Your books are so well written, your explanations so clear, and your enthusiasm really shows through. I've built so many TH things now--13700 and 3080 VCO, noise, ADSR, 3080 R-M. And I feel I kind of understand how they work!

Hey Thomas'

Just stumbled upon this thread and was excited to download your reprint collection, however, your link is now dead and I cannot find an alternate download link. Did you take it down purposefully?

Any chance someone could repost this PDF? I would also be happy to send a donation to Thomas Paypal if that's the way to get the PDF.

That link still works. You literally have to click it and wait for it to time out about 50-60 times. At least that's what I did. The line progresses further and further to the right each time, until it's downloaded. I know--weird. But it worked.
