Our electricity went out about 7 hours ago from a storm, just came back on. I should be able to make my performance, but just in case, I posted a copy of my "backing track" that runs for 30 minutes here:
http://acad.kutztown.edu/~parson/DBN_MULTI_Mixdown_1.mp3
It is about 5/6ths of the planned performance in terms of density, so it is more than a backing track. I plan to announce the piece and improvise over some of the quieter sections, but if the electricity goes back out and I don't reappear within 30 minutes of my performance time, please stream this. Thanks!

Just noticed this post. Thanks, PHOBoS!
The electricity in our house seems to be stable, so I expect to go on live as usual. Listening to Dr. Steve now.
Visitors coming, will listen downstairs, will check into chat at least 30 minutes prior. Yay, Solstice! _________________ When the stream is deep

Subject description: Family Reunions |
|
|
Here is my performance of Family Reunions with Ben Fisher and Nate Fisher, May 29 & 30 and June 1 & 24, 2017, as described earlier in this thread. I improvised live on the Allen & Heath ZED 12fx mixer and Mod Core fx box more than I had planned, especially when the 30-minute recording ended at 20 minutes for some reason. I am getting better at improvising over such surprises. In this case I restarted the composite track, and then time-stretched and pitch-shifted it, and continued playing over that for the final 10 minutes. The piece has somewhat of a flavor of feedback-free-jazz, which is just fine.
Thanks to PHOBoS, Jan, and Stefan for managing the stream, and to everyone for performing and listening. I got to hear about half the performances in real time, and look forward to listening to the other half. I love these events!

I have a question: What was playing during Jack Tamul's time slot? I talked with Jack via FB after the event to tell him how well that performance went with some processed-nature-photograph visuals that I am preparing for an eventual ambient piece in the planetarium, and Jack told me that he didn't perform because of a technical problem. My wife Linda also noted how well that music paired with my visuals-in-progress, without any prompting from me. What was it?
Thanks. _________________ When the stream is deep

The first work on my set |
|
|
Here is a video taken while I improvised the first work on my set. It features the MPS (Mega Percussive Synthesizer) and the Klee Sequencer.
This work continues my approach to live-looping wherein I start out minimally and build the texture slowly over time.
https://youtu.be/WiVF9dVBiWA
I will post an MP3 of the entire set but thought you might enjoy a video version of this.
After doing this I decided that, as much effort as it takes to do video, I'm going to get a better camera. For now, all I have is my old Digital-8 camcorder video. _________________ -- Kevin

Thanks for posting it, Kevin! Can't wait to show my wife. She didn't believe it was all synth. _________________ When the stream is deep

Actually, towards the end of the set I played some of my Native American flutes along with the synthesizer. I am in the process of preparing that part of the set for another video. Not sure if I will finish it tonight or tomorrow, though. _________________ -- Kevin

Another video from my Summer Solstice 2017 set |
|
|
Here is the serene section of my set that features my synth with some Native American Flutes.
Here are some technical notes:
1) I used the Aries AR-313 keyboard's two-note polyphony feature to vary the oscillators' tuning interval.
2) I used the Aries AR-329 Phase/Flange module to impart a stereophonic quality to the synthesizer's sound. The AR-329 has an Aux output that, when panned to the opposite channel of the Main output allows a mono input to become a correlated stereo output. The AR-329 (as are most 1970's phasers) are kind of noisy and can at times be a little tricky to use.
3) I used my trusty Lexicon MX400 for the reverb and my Looperlative LP1 to accomplish the live-looping.

Linda is vindicated! She swore they were traditional flutes. We both really enjoyed the piece. _________________ When the stream is deep
