WASP vcf stripboard |
|
|
Hi.
I want to add a Wasp vcf to my modular rig, but i feel lazy and i don't want to etch a PCB for it.
I've been searching for a stripboard layout and i'm surprised to not find even one.
It's odd for such a popular circuit, so i made one.
I tried to get the smallest board i could, so i added some components to the pots and jacks.
It's not verified yet, but i'm pretty sure it's okay.
I hope this can help someone.

Thank you for the layout. Once I get ahold of some IC's, I'll fab this one up.
NJM13700 is a cheap replacement from mouser if you anyone needs it. Still looking for a 4069 or maybe a 40106.
Let us know when you fire this up, sound files would be amazing. I'm very new to schematics, I wish I could optimize your layout, but I'm still learning |

Hello Bill,
have you built the filter and verified the layout? Which schematic did you use?

I would not use a 40106. It has schmitt trigger inputs which will interfere with the function of the amplifier that is needed by the WASP. The best choice is CD4069UB which is available at Mouser and others. The 4069 is employed not as a gate but as a linear amplifier which provides distortion. An alternative choice would be 4007. _________________ FPGA, dsPIC and Fatman Synth Stuff

no one has tried this yet? I barely rank above a noob so id hate to be the first to alk into thee tortous wasp vero chamber. so it normally runs off 9v battery but can it run of +12v and ground froma basic dc walwart?? im surprised more people haven't participated in this thread. I imagine if it cant run off 12v then a regulator could be added to bring the rail down to 9 before entering the wasp circuit. |

looking at the layout, I can't seem to find the values for the upright resistors...am I missing something? |

thanks for the reply man. looking at the fontrik schematic which might not even correlate to this layout, those resistors seem to be 27k and 1k, but if you look at the layout on diy stompboxes there seems to be to many descrepencies so I suppose ill forget about this one and go back to messing up some more ms-20 layouts. im about to retreat bac over to that forum I suppose. |

I just made this, and got it working after scratching my head for a while.
There are 2 errors in the stripboard layout:
The connection from CD4069 pin 5 is supposed to go to LM13700 pin 12.
There's a 51k resistor missing between CD4069 pin 4 and LM13700 pin 13.
I've used resistors as shown in http://modular.fonik.de/pdf/Wasp%20Filter%20clone.pdf
I also put the capacitor and resistor seen in top right corner of the schematic on each of the outputs, and connected all the jacks to ground. Should be better if I'm understanding things correctly.(?)
I breadboarded it first, and then transfered the components from there to the stripboard, which really made it pretty easy to follow along and compare schematic to stripboard to breadboard as I went.
Anyways, it works. I have to find a better curve for the cutoff pot tho. |

you absolutely rule cero. thanks a lot man. I definetly will build in the next month. deadend fx has all the frostwave pcbs available. funk-a-duck, resonatter etc. plus all the lovetone pcbs and other hard to find pcbs. there in pedal format but that's ok. thanks again cero. maybe ill post a video of bass and guitar into this wasp since one dosent exist yet |

Hello..as per my knowledge with Wasp VCF, If the regulator is working right, there will be 5v on pin14 of the 4069. Note that both chips will work happily on 9v supply, so I'm puzzled as to why 5v regulation has been provided. That said, if you drive the 78L05 backwards, it will probably just fizzle out quietly and supply the original 9v through to the rest of the circuit. And yes, it might appear to work. I believe it is because of the way the designer wanted to invoke distortion. The 4069 gate gain changes depending on the input voltage. It is greatest when the input voltage is halfway between Vdd and Vss. As it nears either Vdd or Vss, the gain decreases. This causes the 4069 used as a "linear amplifier" to distort somewhat like an overdriven tube. If you move the voltage from 5 to 9 you will probably lose some if not all of the distortion effect provided by the 4069. _________________ FPGA, dsPIC and Fatman Synth Stuff
