My Great Divide module for The Deathlehem Machine #13 Subject description: Multiple clock divider for audio and CVs |

Hey all. It's again, been a long time since I were last around. Back to Lunetta building as of 4 days ago though, for the 1st real time in over 3 years.
I don't know if anyone else has done this in any way before, so if I'm "re-inventing the wheel" as I often do in life, sorry about that.
This dual clock divider, is based around circuitry that came to me from another DIY'er. I'll find the schematic later and credit the proper originator.
Using CD4013s, this chap had shown how you could get odd # divisions from them, including 0.5 divisions!
So - I breadboarded a version that would give me the output of:
- the original clock signal and it divided by:
- 1.5
- 3
and from the 2nd divider
- 2.5
- 5
Using a higher speed clock to be able to hear things, I found that mixing only the original along with the 1.5 and 3 divisions, produced audio that had strongly human-nasal sounding harmonics to it!
Loving that, I added the 2.5 and 5 divisions as well, which gave more of the same - filled out even further, harmonically.
The way that I'm building the module is individual inputs for each divider and the outputs of all of the divisions. (Clock input 1 will default to both. An input to 2 will cancel input 1, coming to it.)
Here be a vid., demoing it yesterday.

great, another video, I've missed those
Looks like you got the circuits from here. (I actually made a thread about it) I am sometimes thinking of making a massive
master divider with a ton of different divisions but I usually get carried away with it in my mind and it just gets too complex.
I did make a smaller one with standard binary divisions but with inverted outputs, which makes a bit more sense when used
for clocking things.
Anyway, sounds nice when mixed together _________________ "My perf, it's full of holes!"

Hi Richarius, if you can work with a high input frequency divided down, check out the 16 tone divider thread in this forum http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-63839.html.
These divider designs might be useful, because their division ratio can be changed on the fly from logic inputs. |

It HAS been a long time since my long run of them over a couple of years. I really do miss that period, when I was doing heavy amounts of building. (Conversion to Euro in early 2014 really started changing that. :-/ )

Bingo! Thank you! Directly copied from Art's schematics, yes!

At the very end of that thread, "electrouwe" had said:
"don't overlook: input clock must be symmetrical."
I understand the importance there, completely. My curiosity will also be listening to what happens when the pulse width of the incoming clock moves away from the 50%.
A master divider with lots of different divisions. Aye! Back when I still building regular modular stuff in the 4U format, I had built a couple of new versions of Master Dividers that Ken Stone (CGS.synth.net) had done providing outputs for each division, on all 4 x 90 degree angles of clock time.
But ... I wasn't satisfied yet and eventually scrapped it all. Very little use then.
As had also been said there, I HAVE used the 4017's divisions and again, Ken had done one with 4 or 6 of the chip, to give /2 to /8. I LOVED that module, until it died, for some reason. I used it a lot in Lunetta equipment based, experimental audio recordings.
The only reason I haven't gone farther, including the 3.5 / 7 division on this module is wishing to build it quickly. I would like to have more divisions as I love working with them and logic. _________________ https://tsol.space/crafting/composing-music/albums/ - my punk, ambient and experimental tunes |

Thank you for posting the link to that one! A lot of fun material in that thread! And in moving my DIY electronics from my old uncomfy bench to a new comfy location, I found at least 1 x CD4520 in my collection of chips as well. Hmmmmmm. _________________ https://tsol.space/crafting/composing-music/albums/ - my punk, ambient and experimental tunes |
