I made some audio recordings of tit chicks (birds) today which you can find here.

I also got myself a small birdhouse, I'm not expecting any birds nesting in it this year (it's too smal for a pigeon btw Laughing )
and I have no idea if they will even like it but I want to give a similar look as the birdfeeder.

I thought something was missing around the ferns and when I woke up a week a go it came to mind that
some small leaved variegated ivy would look nice. I had to go to the garden center anyway to get a new jar of peanut
butter (for birds), so I looked ariound if I could find something. Which I did Very Happy

I also got a salvia plant (doesn't say anything else about it) to replace the Phacelia tanacetifolia which has finished flowering.

Snapdragons have some lovely flowers especially the dark pink ones are very nice.

The tiger lilly is producing bulbils. They can be planted but it can take a couple of years before they flower
and I don't really have space for more of them, but I might give it a try. I will dig up the bulb at the
end of the season anyway to see if it produced any new bulbs.

The Rose has also opened up a little bit. It actually has a bunch of blind shoots and only one flowerbud but I am already
happy if it produces one flower as my balcony is far from ideal for it.

It's the Rosa 'Nina Weibull' which to my knowledge is not a miniature rose,
However, plants do tend to stay smaller on my balcony because they are in small pots and don't get a lot of light.

she's opening up a bit further, I think my camera has some problems with how bright red it is.

I think it won't be long now before the tiger lily starts flowering as well.

I have a Jalapeno pepper plant that I thought was going to die.

A few weeks ago, I went out to do my watering and saw that the plant which the day before was full of leaves and a few flowers had been reduced to about half it's leaves. I found a tomato worm on it which I removed and crushed.

The next day, I found FIVE MORE of them all munching away and there were only 3 leaves left on a plant that was some 12 inches tall. I thought it was a goner, but I removed and destroyed all of the worms and watered the plant daily.

After only 3 days, I noticed a lot of young leaves sprouting which grew to full size and then an explosion of flowers. Now the plant is covered in leaves and new pepper fruits (Which I've been taking one daily for my egg dishes). The plant looks very healthy and happy now and the peppers are nice and hot.

Great that you didn't loose it Razz but yeah pepper plants can be very resilliant to hard pruning. As a matter fact it can increase the production quite a
bit if there is enough time left in the season. I have pruned them back in the past for this reason but this year I lost my headstart so I just let them grow.
I should take some photos (actually I think I still have some on my camera I took a couple weeks ago).

ah here they are.

Also visible on the first photo (4) is the passiflora and morning glories (as well as some other plants).

On the third photo you can see the little elf peppers (and a tinkerbell in the same pot). What's a bit weird is that they are usually
very small compact plants but I think I used seeds from the peppers I grew last year and since they are all close together it is
very possible that it is some kind of hybrid. I am curious how those peppers will taste, usually they are rather sharp and don't have
much of a taste (it's more of an ornamental pepper).

Here's an image of the plant as it is now. Several peppers have already been harvested.

Before this come-back, the plant had only three little leaves not eaten by the worms.

Oh yes, here we eat them either green or red. I always leave a few to turn red as they are slightly sweet compared to green and make for nice color in something like an omelet

I prefer them sweet & red but they aren't too bad green.

I just made some more photos. My Jalapeno isn't nearly as big as yours (ehm Embarassed ) but I grow my peppers in smaller pots and they
don't get much full sun. I also had to start a bit late. They did handle the heat very well though, but it didn't make them gow larger.

And then there is the Numex Twilight which is doing great at least one of them is, although the other one isn't doing bad either.
These did have a headstart and I gave the largest of the two a slightly larger pot which it seems to appreciate.

Also a photo of the top part of the purple tigers which are going for height this year. I wonder if it might have something to do with the fertilizer.

That's a very nice patio garden. Mine is indeed in a big pot. I had tried planting seeds outside in the pot, but they didn't sprout this year so the wife bought me a plant from a nursery. Next year, I'll try starting seeds indoors in peatmoss pots and then move them outside when it's warm enough. I've already got plastic bottles with the bottoms cut off for that. I'd plant in the ground outside, but the weed siege is too much for me, so pots work better. However, my plants do get full sun. Last year, wasn't as hot as this year, but too many of the peppers got sunburned. I bought stuff to make a sunshade cover to block the strong mid-day sun, but so far I've not needed it. I want to get more pots too because I really love peppers and would eat them at almost any meal. Last year I had some nice Ortegas. I've gotten habaneros to grow and flower, but never got ripe fruits. Jalapenos, ortegas and anaheim peppers have been the easiest for me.

Oh, you cheated! Laughing

I think you could plant them in pots and then place those in the ground. If the holes in the bottom aren't too small
the roots will probably just grow through them. Of course pots do have the advantage that you can easily move
them around if the weather gets bad.

I've also has success with habeneros before (hot and very tasty) and did plan om growing them this year. Sadly pretty
much none of the seeds of the peppers I wanted to grow this year sprouted which is also why I lost my headstart.
Maybe I have more luck next year.

btw I think you will also like the purple tiger.

I'll look for Purple Tiger seeds. One year I was in Chinatown in Los Angeles at a grocery store and they had a small seed display. Among the seeds I found one envelope with an image of the peppers used for kung-pao. It was all in Chinese, so I couldn't read any of it, but I planted just two seeds in the ground and they grew into giant pepper plants about 4 feet tall and 3 feet diameter. Each plant made at least 100 peppers. Very easy to grow and resistant to insect pests. I tried eating one green, but it wasn't hot at all. Once they turned red though, they did their kung-pao thing. I had so many I decided to sun dry them and I still use them even though I've had them for 20 years. Very nice in beef chili as one of many kinds of peppers I use.
