a tip for wider sounds / pads |
|
|
Some time ago, I acquired an Ensoniq-ESQ 80 for like 80 bucks -- and was in love with how wide and stereo rich the sounds were. I realize it was because with most patches, the lower notes were left panned. And the upper notes were right panned. So, each note/voice essentially has it's own unique space in the stereo image.
I sought to recreate this effect on the Andromeda, and was happily blown away.
- set voice pan to "-50"
- enable voice pan modulation
- set voice pan modulation lvl to "100"
- set voice pan modulation offset to "25"
- set voice pan modulation src to "vox key num"
- set voice pan modulation dest to "main out pan"
I went back and updated some of my pads, and was REALLY happy with how wide, phat, and stereo everything became. This is why the Andromeda is the king of all analog polysynths.
Try it out!
p.s. This also gave me an idea for a feature for my Andromeda Editor. I'd like to have lil customizable 'batches' of settings that people can create. Like, one could create their own groupings of parameter changes that are saveable, and then easily applicable to any Andromeda Patch they have loaded. They could save the above setting changes as "Stereo Pan Modulaton" -- it would get added to a menu somewhere, and when selected, it would apply all those settings easily and quickly. BOOOM.

Great tip!
You can also enhance this wide stereo feeling by:
Effects on: Stereo Chorus/Flanger (combo effect)
Send: 80-100%
Param1: adjust as you feel
Param2: as you feel, but works good i.e. Left pre-delay 16ms / right pre-delay 31ms
Now go to distortion and send distortion (ANAFX) to DFX1 and DFX2 (MAIN is OFF)
Choose Easy or Light distorion for a starter.
Adjust SEND from 2-20% as you see fit without distortion going too audible yet have that wide stereo enhancement audible enough.
Voila!
Basically chorus/flanger distortion higher harmonics enhance the left/right channel wider "separation" by tiny harmonic intermodulation (while the signal itself is clean since MAIN send is OFF).
This can be varied with other multi-effects that have L/R send difference - DLY/DLY or others. |
