Calendar Event: April 21, 2019

We are likely to see some influx over here, Muff's is down again, this time not even showing the usual signs of life. Muff's admins have posted to FB to say that it's related to the bills for the site, and they are trying to resolve it as expeditiously as possible. However, it's reached a point where some people are fed up and looking for "a new home". Hopefully by pointing them here we won't overload this site Smile

It's not dead .. it's sleeping Shocked

Anyways reading up on it people from MW seem more interested to start something anew .. or join some other platforms rather than coming back here (where at least some of 'm started).

But what PHOBoS said ... the party! 's and the welcome 's are ready Cool

If they are down for good, perhaps due to financial reasons, perhaps someone with contacts over there (admins) can suggest they bundle up the last complete version and see if the WayBackMachine at Internet Archives (archive.org) is interested in having the final version.

But maybe they are just "sleeping" as suggested by Blue Hell and/or closed pending a major "Grand Re-Opening" (new and improved website, etc.).

MW is down for financial reasons, which I dont understand.
It was said that because MW refused ads (and thus income generated by ads) it was very expensive, but I dont see ads on EM and I never hear anything about money (of the lack thereof) on this forum..
And they had an extensive number of patreon backers.
There is also a Dutch synth forum, and they have ads, and very intrusive I must say...

But this forum has a mecenas .. basically howard giving his pension away ... you can always donate of course .. there is a donate thingie on the front page.

Ads didnt bring in very much money BTW, they were tried for a while, but not worth the trouble.

Just a guess: Maybe if the owner has traditionally had no interest in running the site on an ad-based income model, perhaps it is down pending some sort of change with plans to return (different income model, sale to another party, any of a number of a zillion possibilities, etc.) based on re-organization, negotiations, etc. Pure speculation. Hmmmmmm.

That is exactly true.

The stated expenses for running MW seem exorbitant to a few of us who have been in the IT industry for a while. There may be factors leading to that which we don't recognize, but

1) not taking ads only cuts of a revenue stream, it doesn't increase the cost of running the site. There has been a Patreon and various donations which together were intended to cover the costs.

2) by several reports it was not too long ago that the costs should have been totally taken care of, and not just up to date, but for at least some time into the future -- and yet now we are told that the bills are again months behind.

It remains to be seen how it will shake out, but this is not a deliberate "I'm going down to revise my business model" in any case.

If you haven't been over to MW lately...

The site's been working fine generally but search is out. Other than a big "Information" box plastered on the heading, there's little to be learned about what comes next. Behind the scenes stuff is appropriately behind the scenes and the Announcements section of the forum has been quiet.

Search has been out for a while before this last mess and then tragedy.

Some searching can be done using site:muffwiggler.com via google.

Apparently it's much the same as last time. There are still unresolved issues and people trying to resolve them. Must be exasperating for all involved.
