Cookie limit extended on the server |
|
|
I've been having problems with this forum software. It affects the view topics since last login. What happens when I walk away from my computer and have not logged off. After 3600 seconds, one hour, the cookie times out and I'm logged off automatically. I don't really see this because I have auto logon set. Next time I access a page, I'm relogged in. The problem is, if new messages came in during that hour before the timeout, I'll not see them as new messages.
To fix this, I just lengthened the timeout to 99999 secounds, which is quite a while, over two months. Most browsers probably won't let it be that long, but that's the best I can do on this end.
Does anyone see any problem with this approach? |

No problem at all.. but what you could do is also add a refresh in the html of the page at
http://electro-music.com/forum/search.php?search_id=newposts
This will help some sessions to keep alive.. just keep that page open and the browser will keep hanging in there.. but of course.. people with dialup connections can find this stupid. So.. add the long cookielife value.. but also add an automitic refresh in the html of this page..
Eh.. uh... sounds smart? Ehhhh _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I had noticed it and because, since I changed my e-mail address, I have not been able to log on automatically anymore (I tried getting rid of cookies) having to log in over and over again was very annoying.
So I do not see any problem with this new approach. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Sounds smart. How do you do this? Can you point me to a resource? |

Reloading of the page... as set by using the refresh tag:
This code goes in between the HEAD tags.
<META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="15">
The command is set to reload every 15 seconds: CONTENT="15"
OK?
This will make the browser reload the url of the page. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

Reloading the page every 15 seconds isn't good, for the search page. How about every 10 minutes. Would that be of any value? |
