But be warned in advance:
Quote: | Paterson's one-time protegé Ayn Rand said of The God of the Machine:
It is a sparkling book, with little gems of polemical fire scattered through almost every page, ranging from bright wit to the hard glitter of logic to the quiet radiance of a profound understanding. |

What is this?
A Sputnik??
Quote: | Ufologists from all parts of the globe come to Montalcino to stare at this amazing painting.
Read the story, but you’ll need to come and see it for yourself – only you can decide!
The Artist
The Sienese painter, Bonaventura Salimbeni, at the end of the 1500’s, was awarded a commission for a work to be executed for the right hand altar of the Church of San Pietro at Montalcino. His work was to be completed for the year 1600 because the commission was to commemorate the Christian Jubilee that year. The painting has been signed: Ventura Salimbeni/pittor serenis/fecit/anni jubilei/1600. The artist carried out his commission on time.
The Subject
The ‘Glorification of the Eucharist’ is not an unusual commission. The painting is structured vertically and the Holy Eucharist is placed in the geometric centre surrounded by various holy people and priests on each side. In the upper part of the painting the Holy Trinity is depicted: On the right is God the Father, on the left is God the Son, and above Them in the centre, is the Dove which represents the Holy Spirit. In the lower left one of the people wears a crown similar to that of a Pope – it is believed to be Pope Clemente VII.
The First Curiosity
But what’s this strange object in the upper centre? What is it that sits between God the Father and God the Son, directly below the Dove? Is it not a shining almost metallic coloured sphere with a strange glow rising at the top?
And what are those two long straight rods attached to the surface of the sphere? The rods appear to widen at the bottom to form a round base on the sphere, while at the very tip of the narrow end of the rod, we find a tiny round ball.
Why is God the Father holding on to one rod, and God the Son holding the other? Are these rods some kind of antennae?
The Second Curiosity
Look again at the sphere. What is that small round tube shaped protrusion at the bottom left? It is very evident to the eye, but could it be possible? Is it a telescope…or a tiny telecamera?
Space History
Perhaps you remember man’s first venture into space, the years of the ‘sputniks’? This painting has Ufologists baffled because this sphere is uncannily reminiscent of early satellites launched into space during the 1950’s. The Vangard II satellite launched by the USA in 1959, for example.
Space Mystery
This painting was put to canvas in the year 1600. What did Bonaventura Salimbeni see in the skies above Sienese territory more than four hundred years ago? What on earth – or in space – prompted him to depict the Holy Trinity in this strange manner?
See it for Yourself
If you would like to view this oil on canvas in the Church of San Pietro please mail me in advance at isabelladusi@tin.it to arrange an appointment. San Pietro is not normally open to visitors and whilst there is no charge for this service, we are presently carrying out restorations to the church and your financial donation will be appreciated. |

You know this already but just in case you ignore it, this painting is not more than a 2 hours car drive from where I live
That's certainly a medieval Sputnik or......the painter was under the effect of magic mushrooms.

not only mushrooms....Montalcino is famous for its red wine: Brunello di Montalcino. A full bodied wine that, if assumed in mass quantities (see Coneheads), can badly trick you, if you know what I mean, you beer drinker _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

In the Old Testament, when Moses asks the Creator, "Who are you?" the being says, in effect, "Am." One bit. One almighty bit. Yes. One. Exist. It is the simplest statement possible. _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

Obviously it is the Vast Active Living Intelligence System. And that is Phil, or at the very least Nicholas Brady or Herb Asher, in the lower left hand corner wearing a funny hat.
Based on an original design by Wolfgang Palm, VALIS was predominantly a phenominon of 16th century Italy and the later PKD novels. Recently, however, they have been manifesting themselves in and around Allentown, PA.
To my knowledge there has been no comment from Wolfgang. _________________ Que la musique sonne - Edgard Varese

OH yes. He is a great, passionate, fan of electronic music. We used to teach each other circuits and patches. He built his own Lunetta. We used to go to surplus electronics stores to buy parts to build synthesizers. Any clues on what he's doing these days? |

I am sorry, but he is dead. here is a cut and paste from a Leonardo page:
Quote: | Introduction by John Bischoff
This autobiographical text is by the late composer Jim Horton (1944--1998). It was written in 1996 as documentation of the composer's artistic activities, musical thought and philosophical outlook. The bulk of the entries pertain to roughly a 30-year period, from January 1967 through May 1996.
Horton was a computer music pioneer who was active in the San Francisco Bay Area. His early work with microcomputers, beginning in 1976, was startlingly original. He incorporated ideas from artificial intelligence and radical music theory into his compositions and performances right from the very start. He was the first composer to postulate the idea of using computer networks to make music and created the first network music performance, with artist Rich Gold, in 1977. With John Bischoff and Rich Gold, he co-founded the world's first computer network band, the League of Automatic Music Composers, in 1978. He was also one of the first composers to use a computer to experiment with just intonation. Jim used the computer as an active partner in the musical process rather than an inert tool.
The Horton text not only captures the flavor of Jim's thought but also something of the spirit and vision of the experimental music tradition in the Bay Area. It is hoped that readers will browse the text on-line and comment on the ideas and activities found there. To expand the contents in this manner would be very much in keeping with Jim's working philosophy. Readers will also find a rich source of information and commentary regarding Bay Area experimental music at The History of Experimental Music in Northern California http://tesla.csuhayward.edu/history/, a million-word archive of texts compiled by Jim in the years before his death.
Editor's Note: We have sprinkled "mailto" tags throughout the left side of this text to invite readers to comment on the periods and ideas Horton discusses here. Comments will be collected and moderated by John Bischoff and then uploaded here for others to read. |
Read the lot here:

I really enjoyed his own texts listing trivia and his concerts and stuff.
I seem to remember some webmag had a longer article about him, but I cannot find that link and I cannot remember the name of the site. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

I suggest we collect the JH stuff in the threads here to a new thread.. or post the same in a Jim Horton thread. The current topic name can of course be fitting, but I guess he deserves a thread of his own. _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"

This is more the way I remember him. He's on the left. Good idea about spliting this into a Jim Horton topic. |

Start increasing your usage of Peroni.
You mention God in relation to this. Very appropriate, actually. Everyone who has read the Bible knows that "God is One". It says that in so uncertain terms. Out of respect for "One", the developers inserted a message into the software, intended to show us our place in the universe. In the process, we are all taken down a notch.
