I just wanted to share this little story with you all.
About 6 years ago a friend of mine gave me an Alesis Microverb that didn't work. I already had one, but I thought having two would be cool, so I tried to fix it,..... nothing.
Now it stayed in the cupboard for ages, then I put it in the "things to make something else out of" box.
Then, today, I thought I'd have another look at it. I had to cut some tracks, remove some caps, pull all the chips, check for shorts, etc. etc. But eventually I isolated a section of the 5V rail (which I new was shorted). There were just 2 bypass caps across it and when I pulled one of them the rail was still 0R to ground.
So,....
The moral of the story is that the past year I've gained so much electronics confidence from being associated with electro-music and all of the generous and knowledgeable people here, that I now have a new Microverb in my setup, which I literally pulled out of the "garbage"!! Very Happy Cool Very Happy Cool Very Happy

Great. It's a terriffic feeling when you fix something. I don't know how much electo-music.com had to do with it, but thanks anyhow.

Well,
it's like I was saying to my father-in-law the other day.
It all has to do with whether you believe in your skills or not.
And I'm sure that all the extra electronics work I've been doing, (which is very inspired by EM) has focused my skills to the point where I decided that it could be fixed, by me.
You know what I mean,..... Smile
