I find synthesiser offensive but I'm going to add it to our word list at your request. I will not fire bomb the UK's embassy in Washington. Twisted Evil

I have a feature request.

If I click "learn" then I'd realy like the spell checker to stop complaining about the same word if it's in the same post again.

Offensive? Why? That's a bit harsh isn't it? I mean it was you yanks who 'borrowed' our language wasn't it? LOL!

I think I would be less wound-up if every time I installed software the damn installer (Adobe are really bad at this) wouldn't ask me if my native language was US-English or International-English!!!!!!!! I mean for pity's sake I come from Eng-Land!!!

I did- and put in 'recognise'. I blurted out;

recognisee (which my spell checker says there is no such word- and I think I agree with it there!)
recognize (wrong)
recognizee (again no such word exists here)
recognosce Shocked (and again- no such word in the English language- and again the Apple spell checker doesn't like it.

Funny that the site gives you an option of 'english' or 'russian'- it's obvious that these yanks are trying to wind us up!! hehe

Kas- learn is a good thing- but then you might as well invent your own words, and use learn- then we will all be back to where we started!!!! LOL!

Learn only stores the words in a cookie which is going to go away a some point. I wasn't aware that the spell check feature was causing such anxiety. Maybe we should have a special post on Zen and the art of using the spell checker.

Its very easy really, the spell checker is just like another reader with another opinion, it can be wrong, it doesn't need to be perfect, it will find find some typo's for you, not all, but it makes things better. Having some obvious words that are special for our environment seems a good idea, but not everything can be in it, impossible.

Not withstanding the spelling differences Tony and George seem to get along pretty well.

And for Tom, when the Mac has a good checker, why bother to use the board's ?

Well, untill a few weeks ago the spellchecker was giving me about twice as many complaints as I made typos. This made it impractical to use yet I kept geting remarks about needing to use it. Right now it's slightly more usefull then it's anoying but I think the ballance could be shifted even further.

Well, initially I tried to perfect my spells using the infamous spell checker..

like the "become a toad you little twat", the fireball spells and all that jazz.

Imagine my disappointment.
Not even the water-into-wine routine turned out OK.
