Difference between MM, NM1, Classic and G1 |
|
|
Hi all, I'm new here and have been lurking around to learn more about the Nord Modular. I have not been able to find a definition of what the difference is between the NM, NM1, Classic and G1. Here is my take... please correct me if I am wrong...
MM is the Micro Modulator and is the sibling of the NM (smaller)
NM is the original or Classic Modulator unit.
NM1 is an updated version of NM and is older than the Classic
G1 was newer tech and a predecessor of the G2.
Also, does the NM come standard with 16 Poly or just 4?
Am I correct in my assumptions?
Thanks in advance,
DennisT

HI Dennis, welcome to the forum !
The Nord Modular, also called the NM, also called the G1 was the first virtual analogue synth from Clavia.
The Micro Modular Or MM, is the little brother to the NM.
The G2 is the latest, and comes in 3 varieties: the G2 Keyboard, the G2 enginer, and the G2X.
Here is a comparison chart from Clavia, which describes all of their
virtual modular synth architectures, rather succinctly.

I hope that helps |

Thank you for the welcome and yes your explanation makes sense. I've never seen this chart before, but it really helps put things together.
I've known about this unit for several years, but because I was new to the synth world, it looked to complicated for me at that time. Now I am ready to dive in and learn more about programming and think this piece would be a great teacher. I really want a NM and will be getting one in the near future.
Thanks again for your help. |

Beware that that chart is set up not to actually compare the models but in order to sell G2's and contains inacuracies. For example; the NM is perfectly capable of delaying audio signals and the master clock *is* accessible from the front pannel.
It becomes downright rediculous when they place dashes over the NM's backwards compatibility with -get this- itself. I suppose that in that case it's not litterally "backwards" as such but.... _________________ Kassen |

After close scutiny, I think you're right... It doesn't matter anyway, cause I am still getting a NM...
