Noise from Input - bad ADC? Subject description: My new Micro Modular isn't quite well. |
|
|
Hi,
I recently got hold of a new (actually demo used) Clavia Micro Modular. Those things aren't easy to get these days, so I was happy to finally find one. I'm using it to process my drum machine sound, including some MIDI clock synced effects. It's very nice!
But. I've found that it gives a bit of noise from Audio In R. Not very much, but it becomes quite a problem when I run the input signal through the overdrive module, and especially through the bit reduction module. Then it is madly noisy!
Has anyone else experienced this kind of thing?
The noise is not like white noise, more like... I don't know what to call it in English. Spot noise? Much like the noise we had at some of the inputs in our old Yamaha ProMix01 at church - and on that one the ADCs were faulty and needed to be replaced. Alas that I don't have the tools (nor experience) to repair SMD stuff. I opened up the MM and found that there's an Analog Devices AD1865R chip - I guess this one is the trouble maker.
Thoughts?
Where should I get it repaired? At Clavia in Sweden probably?
thanks. |

Do you still have that noise when you disconect all the MIDI cables from the MM ? Or when you turn your PC off ?
It sounds a bit digital signals are getting in some way, it might be a ground loop somewhere in the system. _________________ Jan
also .. could someone please turn down the thermostat a bit.

Yes.
I have tried without any cables at all hooked up - only the headphones. I could imagine it being MIDI noise or something like that, since it wasn't static noise but rather dynamic.
Ground loop noise would most likely be present at both input channels, and this doesn't sound at all like your usual 50Hz hum or buzz. |

Sounds like its defective then, too bad ...
I'd contact the shop where I bought it, but when not bought in a shop maybe contact Clavia about what to do. _________________ Jan
