there are two books by julia cameron listed on amazon with similar titles: 'Artist's Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity (Inner Workbook)' and 'The Artist's Way. A Course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self'.
which one are you talking about?

Too many books, that´s what happened..

It's a never-ending battle, finding shelf space for new books. I think 'width' is the Satanic concept here that should be abolished; think about if there would be very very slim bindings that would magically expand in thickness when removed from the shelf and vice versa.
The book I referred to is 'The Artist's Way. A Course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self', dunno what the work book is. There are probably lot of second hand copies in circulation so you shouldnt need to spend more than a couple of bucks to get one.
I've seen some online forums dedicated to be Artist's Way support sites - this may sound weird unless you know that the book describes a 12 week long program, and so, some mutual motivation building is good for making it to the end (I made it to week 10.). We could start a dedicated thread here on electro-forum should there be enough folks interested in committing to the process for 12 weeks. That'd be fun |

since then, have you reread some of the things you wrote and what did you think of them?

Again - somehow the problem isn't the lack of ideas, it's more a "block" that keeps me from trying alltogether (switching on the synths, starting cubase)... |
I had the same problem and I found it was due to fear of failure. The thought process goes something like this:
"If I don't boot up the computer and turn on the equipment to compose, then I won't create something that could possibly be criticized by others. I know I'm creative, but I don't want to risk having people dispute that, so I won't even start to compose something."
The problem with that logic is that you assume that your work won't be received well, but in actuality, it could be just the opposite. I've personally found this to be true in my case. I had a composition that got international airplay (on HOS, Star's End, etc.) and had numerous people tell me from as far away as Moscow how much they enjoyed it.
Of course, none of this would have happened if I decided not to power up my gear and start using it.
Like the Nike slogan says, "Just do it". |

just curious
is the authour of this book you guys are talking about, also a great accomplished artist?
you would have to think he/she would be, in order to have written a how-to on 'how to be an artist' with any authourity _________________ Spiral Recordings |

Yes, she has considerable success as an artist. But it is possible for people to be able to have insight into things they personally don't do - not that this is the case here. For example, there are great sports coaches that can not play themselves, or never have played. Conversely, many great players make very poor coaches. _________________ --Howard

ok fair point..
i guess what i am thinking is
'put the self-help books down...turn off the net...the TV....and just do it...worry about it later'
there is the saying 'those who do, dont talk about it'
inspiration is a motivation that words cannot capture anyway
only the expression; the artistic output, has anything meaningful to say
so get to it ! _________________ Spiral Recordings |

Relax, chill, be at one with nature:
The best inspiration seems to come from nature, Elgar riding his bike through English countryside, seems to have inspired him. I realize he's a classical composer, but respect must be due.
I reckon stress limits creativity.
Not sure what others think |
