Today I found in my mailbox :

(see http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=69377 for downloads, scroll down for some notes I added)

Quote:
Hi,

our first release of Nomad - Nord Modular Editor is now available.

You can download the release in the Files section:
Package: nomad
Release 0.2.1-pre

Please note that this is only a pre release and has several bugs and
limitations.
However you can do the most important operations:
- import patch file(s)
- export patch to a file
- send a patch to the synthesizer
- receive a patch from the synthesizer
- edit patch which exists in the synthesizer

See also the file 'README.txt' in the release.

Requirements:
-------------
- Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0
- platform: any

Starting Nomad:
---------------
You start Nomad with the command:
java -jar nomad.jar

Micro Modular users:
--------------------
Since none of us developers has a Micro Modular available for testing
we don't support this model at the moment. However you can try if
Nomad works with this model and supply us with feedback so that we
can make necessary changes to achive support.

Note: Before you use Nomad with the Micro Modular you have to ...

- open nomad/conf/application.xml in a text editor

- change the line

4

to

1

- save the file

Feedback / Reporting Problems:
------------------------------

You can supply us with feedback or report problems at
the nmedit-devel mailing list:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=18303

If you want to report exceptions please add the log file 'nomad.log' to
your report.

Your nmedit team

This is a Java version of the editor, so you'll need to have Jave installed. The software was developed under Linux but could be working on Mac's and Windows platforms as well. For details see the sourceforge site.

Impressive job! GUI looks the part too!

Very nice work. It's been a while in the making, but I think it's a great
achievement!

Now I'll have a look if I can get it to work with my MM too props

Regards,

Interface is so slick.
Anyone have any luck getting their Nord and Nomad to talk from OS X 10.4 (PPC)?

Very Happy that would require the synth OS to be rebuilt as well ... nothing hints at people working on that.

You have to make sure that Nomad is started from within the same directory where nomad.jar file lays. Something like
Code:
java -jar long/path/to/nomad.jar

won't work. Instead you should do
Code:
cd long/path/to
java -jar nomad.jar

I have no Mac so I can't tell you how to configure the os x jar starter, maybe someone else knows.

I simply opened the zip on my desktop and then opened the nomad java file that is inside this nomad folder on my desktop. then just opened the java file.
it works great.

Sven, just a wild guess ... do you have the right Java Runtime Environment ?

The readme says :
Quote:
Requirements:

- Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0

1. You might not see the application starting when an exception occurs. Can you look if there is a file 'nomad.log' inside the application directory and if so can you post the file here?

2. If the log file does not exist then nomad has never been started. Could you try starting it manually?
This can be done with the following command which must be called from within the applications directory
Code:
java -jar nomad.jar

If this works for you then the jar starter you mentioned is not working. In this case I am not able to help you since I have no mac.

today my software updater offered me a new java version...seems that the newest one is not part of the initial install of 10.4.7... but it only gets offered after 10.4.7 is installed...

Now its working Smile

Do you nee reports or is this more relevant after the version 1.0 release?

G,.

works nicely with xp sp2 and updated j2environment.
looks and feels solid: nice work Very Happy

a few things i noticed (i have not looked into it too deeply, i must admit):

there are certain patches which will not open but open with clavia's editor (v3).
i have to manually download(upload?) the patches to my nn to addition them? is there a setting to do that automatically?

best regards

eike

damn, this is cool. I don't even own a NM1 or micro but the idea of being able to edit any nord from linux makes it tempting. Excellent use of multi-platform java and open source,

Thanks eike, nice to hear that.

The current patch file parser handles only the 3.03 patch file format. If you open the patch with clavias latest editor and save it again you should have no problems loading it with Nomad. We know that some older patches are not working, but future releases of Nomad will be able to read them.

Do you refer to bank up/download ? There is currently no support for this, but will be in future releases.
