C&P-ed:

INFO ABOUT DundeE-Live 2008:

DundeE-Live marks the 25th Anniversary of the first ever UK Electronica Festival back in 1983.

Back then, Jeanette and Dennis Emsley, two electronic music fans who were promoting the genre on local radio, had also set up a unique cassette-magazine called Inkeys which featured DJ-style voiceovers and links plus new and exclusive music from electronic music artists from the UK and all around the world. It proved to be a huge success for them and grew up to 17 issues over a three year period.

In 1983, with the assistance of Mark Jenkins, Mark Shreeve, the late Bob Cutts and Peter Harrison, plus Andy G from Lotus Records, they organised the first UK Electronica festival at Woughton Campus in Milton Keynes.

UK Eelctronica was essentially meant to be a live version of Inkeys, and to that end, featured concert performances, sales stands, electronic music demos, instrument demos and info dissemination, as well as personal appearances from electronic musicians not playing at the event. The first event featured, among others, Ron Berry and Ian Boddy, and was a huge success.

Spurred on by this, and given the opportunity to organise at Sheffield's University/Octagon Centre complex, the Emsleys moved the event to Sheffield in 1984, this one even geting mentioned via an interview on Radio 1's lunchtime news programme, Newsbeat. Their final promotion, also at Sheffield, was UK Electronica '85, which featured the debut of Wavestar, a duo featuring the late Dave Ward Hunt and a certain John Dyson, plus Scottish band Altres, a sextet of which five turned up to play!

In 1986 and 1987, Andy G's Lotus Records took over the running of the event, which moved to Stafford's Gatehouse Theatre, numbering among others, Ron Berry and Ian Boddy and Wavestar once again, plus the Electronica debut of Vietgrove.

For 1988, Ant Thasher, the electronica stage manager from '84 onwards, organised an event in Bradford, while Mark Jenkins, one of the original organisers, promoted and ran one in London in 1989.

The final UK Electronica took place in Sheffield once again, returning to its spiritual home at the University complex, in 1990.

Now, 25 years after the original festival and 18 years since the last one, Inkeys are proud to present "DundeE-Live" - The 25th Anniversary Festival Of UK Electronica '83.

The chosen venue for 2008 marks, for the first time, a move north of the border, to Scotland's east coast, specifically Dundee and the venue Hustlers based in North Lindsey Street in the city centre.

Mirroring the original promotion, the festival will be a 12 hour event from midday to midnight, featuring 7 bands and artists playing live; DVD showings of previous events, including most or all of the legendary Ash Ra headline performance in 1985, and more, on a large screen in the concert area; sales and information stands, plus a few exclusive music tracks played between sets.

Of the artists and bands playing live, Modulator ESP will open the event at 12.30pm, followed by, in this order, Vietgrove, Ron Berry, Ion, Ian Boddy, Altres and John Dyson. Full timings will be available on this site on a week or so.

Tickets for the event will be on sale from May 12th and available locally from the venue or from Grouchos Records and Ticket Shop in the Nethergate, while they may be purchased by mail order from CD Services Mail Order (Tel:01382-776595). Advance tickets are available at £10 (+ likely booking fee), and on the day at the venue for £15. Re-entry during the day will be allowed on presentation of the ticket at the door.

The venue is city centre with shops and eating places within 2 minutes walk, while the venue itself has a licensed bar and a childrens licence.

With Nessie (Jeanette), original creator of Inkeys and UK Electronica, in attendance as special guest, this will not only be a very special event but also strictly a 1-off and so we hope as many of you will attend as possible, and we look forward to giving you one of the finest days of electronic music you'll have enjoyed for many years.

This should be an absolute blast, w/a great, diverse lineup, very much in the spirit of the old "UK Electronica" gigs from the 1980's. We're thrilled and honored to be on the bill of this one.

That does look great. I wish it was a little closer to Tennessee, so I could go.
