That sound is one of the early "string machines", the ARP Omni, if the references are right. You may find this Sound on Sound article on recreating vintage string synth sounds helpful:

I personally think you can get a decent enough "string synth" with any synth that has good modulations; when I compose "string synth" patches at home, I use a Dimension C pedal (an old Roland BBD chorus) for a bit more authenticity.[/url]

Thanks, i will try it out.

when i go to create this sound, I should go to manual mode right?

so its plain?

but on the nord lead 2x, even in manual, it uses the same settings as the last patch,

is there anyway to get a completely blank manual mode to start?

When recreating sounds, it sometimes is helpful to start with the default patch (aka "initialized patch" and other terms). The default patch on the K-Station is a single osc sawtooth with no other real settings apparently. It's not the case on other synths, the Andromeda default patch is kind of funky for instance. I have no idea what the default patch is on the Nord Lead 2.
