I was just having a thought... Idea
How about having a list of books related to electronic music here on electro-music.com? There are many categories of relevant literature, e.g. history, music theory, electronics, signal processing, DIY, studio/recording technique, manuals etc.. We could include info (title, author, publisher, ISBN...), descriptions/reviews, hints on where to get them and so on. Even hosting or linking to e-books where available.

I just signed up as an affiliate of amazon.com, so we can have links to the books and maybe get a little network money when people buy a copy of a book. Great suggestion.

Good going with the amazon coop mosc - you're practically already on it!

How could this be done? Something like the link section or the store, a (sub) forum, a pinned topic somewhere or...?

I'm not sure the best way. I would think the links section could be used. People could post books they like with recommendation. We could add a category for recommended books. The link could point to Amazon.com with all the affiliate information included. I guess I could manually modify the links, or hack the php code of the links section to put that in automatically.

I'm not sure how well the amazon.com affiliate program works for international stuff. Do people who live in Europe order from the American Amazon.com site, of do they use one of the European sites. They have them in: Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | Japan | France | China. As I understand it, each one has it's own affiliate program. Maybe I could join all of them and we could have links to all of the sites. Seems very complicated.

I guess using the same mechanics as the links section would be ok. I only now noticed that it can't be accessed unless you are logged in. I've never tried adding links. Of course, adding links should only be for logged in users, but why is it not readable for guests? What would the rules be for a similar books section? If one adds a link (or book...) can it be edited and deleted as well?

I'm usually getting my books from amazon.co.uk, but I've also used amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. Unfortunately the different amazon branches have different accounts and the sites are different. I can understand your concern with joining all 8 amazon branches. Would be nice if they managed to unify that, but if they haven't done it by now they probably never will.

Yikes, I never noticed it either. It is configurable - I just fixed it. Thanks for calling it to my attention.

I don't know, I'd think it would be the same as any other link, editable and deleteable by the registered user that adds the link.
