I saw The Knife perform a couple nights ago, and the most interesting thing was that Olof played harmonic (vs. percussive) instruments through what was probably some kind of midi controller. In otherwords, he was playing the bass line to one of the songs with drumsticks rather than pressing keys on a keyboard. So does a midi controller like this exist, or is he just creative enough to figure out some other way of accomplishing this... the melodies were complex, too complex to have been played with a few drum pads that trigger midi

Many people use drum pads to trigger off short sequences, which on their own don't make a song, but can be intricately woven to make one.

Maybe a MIDIKat? http://www.midi-classics.com/h/hK8586.htm

or a Roland SPD type pad? http://www.roland.com/products/en/SPD-S/

I've experimented some with having a microphone with delay and speaker feedback through a filter (on the G2) record my fingers banging on table. This triggered the clock input of a sequencer which controlled the filter threshold, with a pop corn kind of melody line as a result.

Although it was the only time (so far) that I have heard a neighbour scream "shut the f*ck up" through the wall, I'm not sure if it would work in a live setting.

/Stefan

The hit on the pad could open a fast gate .. and you could have something like a semismart arpeggio of sorts running on a synth or two. The opened gate then lets a note or two slip out.. Cool
