New Track - Fundamentalism w vocals Subject description: Outlandish Ambient |
|
|
Here's is something I have been working on for the last month. It is called Fundamentalism it has a runtime of 6:13. Very outlandish piece. The body of it's expression doesn't really kick in until around 2:00, but it is definitely something I am proud of. It was made using mostly Native Instruments Komplete 4 bundle and was sequenced in Cubase4. I would suggest listening to it in some headphones with good bass reproduction, as it's second half is loaded with rhythm. Tell me what you think.

Happy listening. |

Nice track... (doesn't seem very outlandish to me, though). Really nice textures.
I think, if there's any problem with the vocals, it isn't necessarily the mixing but to me, the singing lacks some precision. It sounds a bit like laying back in the couch but to my ear, I'd prefer a vocal sound that stands up and commands my attention. Not sure exactly how to do that vocally
The vox could use some EQ, boost the highs a bit. Seems a bit underwater. Maybe that's what you want, but I have this feeling that a crisper sound would be better here.
My opinion only, of course.

Thanks dewdrop, I appreciate the input. I still have a little bit of mix-tweaking to do on this one. The vocals are very muffled, I am not too confident in my singing, I am going to go over them one more time to get them to stand out better and be more annunciated . |

I think your tracks are well-balanced overall. The mix has a kind of "dark" sound which is ok if that is what you want to achieve. I don't think the issue with the vocal tracks is how it sits in the mix, rather it has to do with the mic'ing/eq.
When working with a microphone, get as close to the sound that you want with the mic placement so that you can minimize the use of EQ. With such a track, you will have maximum flexibility at mix down time.
I didn't find the track outlandish, either. A little eerie perhaps.
I enjoyed listening to it, though. _________________ -- Kevin

Thanks for the feedback. Since the original posting this file has been optimized. I had quite a few people talk about some volume issues with a lot of my tracks so I started exporting the mix-downs as audio and slapping a limiter on them to help them achieve a better "commercially-close" volume. I know very little of mastering but I think the effects of the limiter helped the track stand out better. I am still getting a feel for these tools(compression/limiters/maximizers) but I feel optimistic so far. |
