As you guys already know we have been offline for a couple of days.
We are back, but it will take a few days before everything is back to normal.
Most stuff is working OK, but the store is broken and we are missing all recent message attachments.

We are now sending Howard, our hero, to bed before he faints.
beer party! banana

Great to see electro-music back! A hearty handshake for all that labored to resurrect it.

Uh.. kill the cache? Wireless connection? Try to force it to use the same connection that your desktop pc is using? Or.. Boot with autoconnect wireless turned off. Launch browser, get "no internet connection" error, then manually reconnect to the wireless basestation? This is Xp or Vista? right?

Almost a year of attachments have been lost.

This shouldnīt have happened but it did. We have been serving for years all attachments from a third server, but this broke october 2006. If this had been working like it should, then everything would have been in mint condition on a level 5 raid and on LTO3 tapes. We will restore the connection to the attachment-server ASAP. The original configuration is smart; it adds redundancy and also reduces bandwidth demands.

Work was so much less enjoyable today with no electro to peruse during the quiet moments, on the plus side i got a lot more done.

Well done and Glad yr/its/everyone is back.

Yes, lost as in Lost. This is human error, if you can call me human. When the third server went down, I switch serving attachments to the main server, but didn't modify the backup script to save the attachments. When the third server came back up I forget to switch back, so since Oct 25 the main server as handling attachments and they weren't getting backed up.

I've worked on this all night. We have many backups all over the place, but not for attachments since Oct 25.

I hope we can recover most of the g2 patches from Jan's zip file archive. The other attachments could be reploaded by members. I'm very sorry for this, I feel terrible.

I used to be an IT manager. This happens from time to time. The best way to prevent these things is to have several people responsible; they can check things from multiple points of view. Unfortunately, we only have one Linux admin. After working on the server for almost 18 hours straight, I'm still a little punchy...

Or maybe windows server 2003 pretending it can do DNS, I can't get that one to work properly here and in trying I lost all internet connectivity for the company here pff... I just remembered that I have a 2nd independent adsl line though, using the test server now Very Happy

Good to see you all again !

I'll check the G2 patches I have, but that backup is not too recent either - I'll see if I can reattach what I have. Just hope the DNS at home is working OK.
