nord lead 3 - pc connection via cme usb midi Subject description: doesnot work |
|
|
Hello everybody,
I'm new here. Using a Nord lead 3 for more than one year, and have produced/modified a lot of sounds and performances.
Now is time for backup of all the hours spended on the sounds.
I tried using the CME USB/MIDI Cable interface and the Nord Sound Manager 1.02. The USB hardware is recognized by the computer as Audio Device, can select it in the Sound Manager but nothing happens.
When selecting "Download" the corresponding menu items remain grey ( not selectable ).
Upload features can be selected, including "Manual download", but does not work. When nl3 is sending, window remains flashing red and does not receive anything.
(yes, I've also tried to exchange the in / out ...
I've tried on three different computers, no midi using software is installed there.
Does anybody have experience with this combination of hardware, or any other ideas?
thx, alf |

I red the specs of the cme usb midi and I think it has to work, although I haven't any experiences using it.
First of all, 'download' in the Sound Manager is from the computer to the synth.
I always use Upload > Programs > the bank I want to upload. Then the Midi LED lights up on the synth panel (just at the side of the master level). When all 128 memory locations of that particular bank are uploaded, Sound Manager opens a window. All the Programs you don't want to save or want to save them in another folder you can drag to another window or delete. You can save the window in any folder you want.

Thx to Wout for one problem:
The upload / download terms in the NL3 Sound manager are a little bit confusing (if I click download on the PC I think I will receive something).
Other things, if somebody gets the same problems:
Main problem was a configuration conflict in Windows. All PCs I've tested have integrated sound cards, Windows did show the new device, but not activate MIDI usage for the new USB device (even if selected).
After deselecting MIDI for the integrated, selecting MIDI for USB, rebooting, deselecting/selecting again, rebooting, deselecting/selecting again... it worked.
And last: the in/out labels on the cables of the U2MIDI were wrong (I have tried also yesterday to change).
I used the Upload->Receive Manual Dump.
Now it's fine, 1 year of new sounds are safe now.

Most sounds are changes to the delivered ones needed for my performances, I will think about uploading some of the new ones, when considered them to be good enough.
Is there any forum, subforum for song related performances/modified sounds for nl3? I think I could contribute some, sure not perfect - but might help somebody (including me, if others would contribute sg).
But:
Maybe I am very exotic - using the NL3 as main keyboard (separate organ and piano in addition). But playing rock&pop, primarily from 80s and 90s it has not seemed to be the wrong desicion until now.

Take a look at http://electro-music.com/forum/topic-20377.html This forum is as free as you like, within the normal rules, of course, like not insulting somebody and infrigment of copy rights...
