Chuck in Gutsy Gibbon Ubuntu |
|
|
I am installing Chuck on gutsy gibbon, the latest ubuntu release. Here is what I did which was successful:
Download the latest chuck.
Right click - extract here.
open up terminal, cd to the chuck directory.
cd chuck*
cd src
sudo apt-get install build-essential bison flex libjack-dev libasound2-dev libsndfile1-dev
make linux-alsa
sudo make install _________________ All phenomena are atoms in association and dissociation. |

Thanks for the information.
I always compile with the set of libraries also.

In addition, I use both chuck for alsa and chuck for jack,
so usually I compile for both two.
but I didn't sudo make install
instead, I do this:
extract chuck, go to src, make linux-alsa, then sudo mv chuck /usr/bin
remove the chuck's source directory then extract again
go to src, make linux-jack, then sudo mv chuck /usr/bin/chuck-jack
with this, I have both version of chuck ready to use in linux command-line by using chuck for alsa and chuck-jack for jack support. |

There're still something quite unstable with my recent Gutsy installations,
so now I'm using both Feisty and Gutsy on the notebook.
They're fine.
I'm happy with ChucK & Jack..
I can do more with ChucK that way.. for example,
it's easier to send and receive midi and audio steam between applications.
One way I gain from this is using puredata & chuck..
is to use puredata as the control interface..
(using sliders in puredata to generate midi control change) and send to ChucK via Jack.
It's one of my favourite way to control values in ChucK.
Hydrogen is also a cool drum machine to play with ChucK by sending midi from ChucK to the drum machine. |
