Hey guys.

This is a very rough and incomplete draft of a basic beat cutter that I have built on a doepfer system. It is meant to drop audio synced to the master clock, with each button corresponding to a step. It does basicly what it is meant to in this incarnation, but the envelope seems to effect audio too drastically. Basically, the difficulty I am having is in figuring out the function of the envelope module in the G2. I am just wondering if someone could look at this and figure out why the volume of the output is effected so drastically by the enevelope. I have a video of the doepfer patch and how we use it live if this would help anyone. But for now I will just post the patch. Thanks for any suggestions.

welcome MEGASOID

'm not sure what you mean exactly (waiting for the video to complete, waiting for the ... Very Happy ) ... I mean, when the release time is short it will go to silence ... you could set longer release times maybe or you could mix in some of the input signal in addition to the gated signal?

The problem is kinda twopart.

The ADSR's attack time doesnt quite seem quick enough, and the release curves seem to knock down too much volume in comparison to an analog one. Is there a way to have a separate VCA and ADSR module in the G2 environment?

Not really, you can use the ADSR output without using the VCA and you can use a multiplier as a VCA, but it would do exactly the same. You could try to change the ramp type of the ADSR to linear decay, and you can experiment with the envelope set to gate or trigger mode (not possible for all env. types).

Bluehell:
Thanks, we actually tried that already before jumping over here.
Still trying to crack this, as it is a patch we use a LOT during our live performance.

How's this?

You may need to adjust the main release knob (ever so slightly) on the ADSR to compensate for different tempos. This one was done at 120 bpm. The static shape module changes the curve of the envelope, so pick one that sounds best to you. I mixed in the gate signal to the envelope, for a punchier attack. Use the level sequencer to both trigger a step, and control its lengthdecay.

actually, here is a little mod, so that when a sequence step is not selected, it won't out put the release amount from the sequencer to the ADSR.

Thanks for the inputs, it has been months since I have been playing on the completed version of the patch, and the first time in months that I have checked the board!

Anyways, here is a completed version of the patch, with help from Pk/Karn.

Posted Image, might have been reduced in size. Click Image to view fullscreen.

Enjoy! Its a really fun one!

The main part of the patch is a stereo Attack, Decay, Release which is triggered off a step sequencer/beat chopper that can rhythmically toggle on/off parts of the live input. When the ADR is tigntened, it can change the playback envelope of songs in real time, and CUT the beat. We suggest trying this as a live processor for Ableton, but it will work with any host sequencer sending midi clock and audio simultaneously to the G2. In addition to the beat chopper, it is also a filter box, a delay, a bit crusher, a beat scrubber, and a transformer switch. We suggest modding the patch to your taste in filters/fx, and using the variation buttons to store 8 presets that work with your music.

On top of that, It the patch is an Assignable/Labelable controller. The controller consists of 3 parameter pages, each with 3 Banks, that holds 8 labelable cc knobs, for a total of 72 controllers for you to assign as you wish, from filters to mix volumes, sends or whatever you like! The G2 is a fantastic controller, especially when used as a real time beat chopper + filterbox. We have been using it all year. We hope you will use it all next year!

Download should run at about 95% on a non expanded G2. Feel free to send us your tweaks on it!

And suddenly the MEGASOID refs above seem odd Laughing How did you solve the original problem?

Re. email response notifications ... basically when you're lucky and do everything right it works .. or so it seems ... it's a three headed monster .. at least Wink

1) a profile setting (top of page, Profile, Preferences, Always notify me of replies)

2) a posting specific setting (under the message you type there is a checkbox "Notify me me when a reply is posted")

3) luck ...

So basically I don't know, but on you first mail in this thread 2) seems to be off. I'll try to turn it on, but even then then 3) is still needed ...

and it works!

Thanks guys.
As it turns out, I think it was more of a problem of just getting used to the different shapes of the ADR and getting the sequencer clocked right.

I think originally I had it running over 16 steps which made it seem like it was much slower than the analog version of the patch. Anyways, it is working great now.

I want an expansion so badly now!

Good!

I remember the first time that I bought a modular synth (a formant) ... took me some time then to get it to make sound at all Wink

The expansion board gets harder and harder to find it seems Crying or Very sad
