Subject description: Nord Lead 2x- Help with "strings" sounds or good upper octave sounds
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Im really new to synths, and the Nord Lead 2x is the one many people pointed me to.

How can I program a nice, soft "strings" esque sound, that sounds good in the upper octaves of the keyboard?

I can get it to sound good an octave above middle E, but after that it doesnt sound very good.

Im miserable at editting, and I dont want to have to use straight up pre-sets.
any help? What programs to use? how to edit them to get them how I want?

any help at all..

Looking for some Joy division/The Killers/New order type strings sounds.

welcome Lbsword

I hope you have a windows computer at your hand, because most of this stuff is PC.

Go to http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/020_NordLead2/
There you find lots of Programs, even archived on categories.

At http://nm-archives.electro-music.com/020_NordLead2/023_Miscellaneous/NordGenerator_Editor/
you'll find a Editor, which ables you to upload these SysEx files into the synth. You can also study the settings of the parameters, handy to learn what's is happening in the synth.

Nah... Smile
I wasn't suggesting to use presets, but to study them!
Upload these into your synth, look in the Editor and try to figure out what makes them sound the way they do.

I mostly create strings using saws, because that's the way the bow creates its sound too, but most programmers use squares...

It sounds dull, I know, but the best way to try is understanding what Programs are doing. Anyway, telling you exactly how to do it, is a kind of preset too, isn't it?

Here some Programs and the Tool about string-like sounds.

You have to use a Tool which is able to send the sysex to the NordLead. NordGen can do this. Other tool, lik Midi-OX also.

NordGen makes it possible to see the settings of the knobs.
Just drag&drop the file on the tool and push 'send'.
You'll need a Midi interface, though...
