Calendar Event: May 17, 2008

Four emerging musicians from the Philadelphia Spacemusic
community will perform at First Night Out on 17 May 2008 as part
of The Gatherings Concert Series.

Jeff Coulter (synthesizers) and Harrison McKay (guitar) make up
The Tangent Project. Experimenting with electronic sounds and
atmospheric textures their music explores both dark and bright
moods. Their compositions are in constant motion, either
moving forward or churning in stillness, or at some indistinct
level in between. Live video projections provided by visual artist
Mike Hunter.

Best known as host of STAR'S END on WXPN, Chuck van Zyl
has also been making his own unique style of electronic music
since 1985. His epic synthesized tone poems express
something built up from within, rather than extracted from the
outside. This concert will incorporate projections of van Zyl's
recent series of infrared photographs.

Roycee Martin's work includes music created on the "Chapman
Stick" which uses the two-handed tapping technique associated
with the touch guitar. This radical departure from standard guitar
practice is further extended through the application of various
digital sound processors.

David Rose is a life-long musician who draws heavily upon his
Mexican and Native American heritage. His music is a unique
blend of ancient Native American flutes, drums and percussion,
mixed alongside contemporary instruments and styles.

The Gatherings Concert Series presents First Night Out with
Roycee Martin, David Rose, The Tangent Project and Chuck van
Zyl live in concert on Saturday 17 May 2008 at 8:00pm (doors
open at 7:30pm) in the church sanctuary of St. Mary's Hamilton
Village 3916 Locust Walk (just east of 40th & Locust) on the
Penn campus in West Philadelphia. Proceeds from the event will
benefit The Corporation for Innovative Music and Arts of PA (CIMA
of PA).

Admission (at the door) is $20; $10 for full time-students with
proper ID. Advance Tickets are available at TicketWeb.com

The Gatherings Concert Series is presented by the all-volunteer
staff of The Corporation for Innovative Music and Arts of
Pennsylvania
