Hi folks, last year I worked with a company in England to produce an accelerometer on a USB interface. After much waiting for chips, the first prototypes are now available! Yay! So now you can easily add acceleration sensing to computer-based audio equipment.

Some details about the product: the accelerometer is a 3-axis device, so you can sense X, Y, and Z. It senses +/-3G and also has an expansion port for pots, switches, analog I/O, etc. Plus it's tiny: it has a miniature USB connector and the whole board is not much bigger than a large postage stamp.

I am putting together an example web page with instrument motion sensing software that controls guitar effects. When that is ready (soon) you can download some software that tests out the accelerometer.

Please let me know if you have any questions, etc. Thanks!

That looks pretty cool - congratulations! Very Happy

Though I don't think I can fit this thing into a project of my own currently, I can see how it could be useful for many applications.

/Stefan

Yes Jan, it worked out well. ok, correction: the analog is input only and none too fast, just for controller interfacing. Also, I cannot claim to be impartial as I will receive some of the profits. Dang, isn't that something, you do some good in the world and it pays you back somehow. Love it!

I got my board today! I'm so excited. This things is SO SMALL, it's amazing and exactly what I have been looking for!

Now, is there a better forum to use to get help installing/configuring/programming this lil beauty?

I'd love to be able to hook up a rumble motor control circuit and a thermistor-thingy so I can read the temperature with it, but I need to get the tilt stuff working first I suppose.

Isn't it an incredible little piece of techno? Yes, try the forum on www.ultimarc.com for help with details... but please share your results with us, and if you get stuck we can help you, we've got more tech up our sleeves than you might think my friend.... Cheers and best wishes!

Les

Hey Envy- tor Wink

how long is the delay maximally for the accelerative data, and how big the bandwidth? I am looking for a microphone/accelerometer.

Greetings!

Haha, nice nick twist there! The analog I/O is unfortunately not fast enough for microphone input as far as I know. There is digital I/O and I suppose one could build an ADC and twiddle all the bits to increase the bandwidth, possibly. But really the practical application here would be to use a conventional microphone and just cable-tie the accelerometer cord to the mic cord. That way you'll have full quality audio and it won't take much DIY work. Sorry if that's not quite what you wanted to hear. Best of luck to ya,

Les

Thank you for your answer! It is more important to me than a solution. Smile
