PM spam on electro-music.com |
|
|
As several hundreds of you likely have noticed we've been having an issue today with a group of users sending around PM spam.
Unfortunately this is not a situation that can easily be rectified now, but I wanted to let you know that the issue does have my attention and that I'm trying to keep an eye open for any new outbursts that may occur.
Also I'm working on deleting the spam from the database, so there might be notifications for PMs that no longer exist.
I'm sorry for for any inconvenience this may have caused. _________________ Jan

It was pointed out to me that the statement I made above about "deleting the spam" from the database could be read as if I had been reading Private Messages. As PMs happen to be stored in a database table such would indeed be possible for people having the rights to look into them. This made me hesitate to go into those tables at all, but in this case I judged it to be better that the spam would be deleted, and so I did go in.
I do want to state here that only mosc and Blue Hell do have the tools to look into the forum database directly, and that it is our policy to not read any Private Messages, as these are considered to be Private.
Also, in this particular case, I did not read any messages at all, but just deleted the messages based upon the user_ids as they had been reported to me by forum members. _________________ Jan

S'all good, I trust you man! Worst thing I talk about in PMs is how badly addicted I am to red keyboards... |

You just do what you need to do Jan.
I for one have complete trust in your descretion.
I actually believe that looking after the health of the forum comes before any quibbles regarding privacy. There isn't anything about me which I would have problems sharing with most of you. PMs tend to be about alot less personal things from my experience. Still, I understand that some will use them for their expressly "private" use. _________________ What makes a space ours, is what we put there, and what we do there. |

Suggestion: Could there be a button for adding a standard copyright notice to files we upload? The "profile" could be used to add the full artist name? I mean.. a new field in the Profile used for entereing the full artist name.. else the nick would be used and that one is not always that informative. |
Bloody hell surely this is another spam post! |

A quick thanks for managing the electro-music site. I never was the spam so either it never was sent to my inbox or you removed it already. _________________ -- Kevin
