"Transforming a guitar into a Blues Harmonica"
Hi everybody.
I have a fun new series on the Electro-Harmonix blog called "Effectology"
New Sounds every two weeks with settings in the forum.
This week "Transforming a guitar into a Blues Harmonica"
This track was all done with a regular guitar and regular pickup!
It sound a lot like a Chicago style amplified Harmonica.

Thanks Bob!
I all ready own then!!!!!!
It a cool company to be involved with.
They just have the most unique pedals I have ever played.
Its also big fun to archive new sounds with just a standard guitar.
Thanks again for listening.

Sounds very good to me, all your stuff does!
I have been trying to make a Hog type effect in Kyma, I am gradually getting there. I am very impressed by the sounds people get out of it, do you know anything about the technology they are using to do the pitch shifting?
I will have a look at the Micro Synth manual as well.

Bill, that worked really well for me, especially as it might put paid to those "jump on stage and wail away, because a harp man is the life and soul of every party" amateur idiots who sometimes ruin any remotely bluesy number you might try to play at a gig.
Seriously, that was great work, Bill! I might have to look into a couple E-H pedals meself, although I'm really more of an acoustic player these last fifteen years...
Oh, and we should have a play sometime! _________________ Where there are too many policemen, there is no liberty. Where there are too many soldiers, there is no peace. Where there are too many lawyers, there is no justice.

Thanks Andy and Oskar.
Andy,
The HOG is basically a fast pitch shifter with its 10 pitch shifts run in parallel.
What sets it apart for all the rest is there are things designed by David Cockerell.
He did the MicroSynth and the POG and the Stereo Memory Man/H and the 16 second delay!
David designed the original EMS synthesizers made famous by Pink Floyd and Brian Eno and many others.
The filtering section of the HOG and MicroSynth I believe is all Cockerell.
Just drips EMS sound.
There is an envelope generator for shifts above the root and a separate envelope for the shifts below the root or original note.
Both work in two directions with one slider.
There is a Spectral Gate switch which strips the upper harmonics from the original signal so the harmonic content of the upper pitch shifted notes
are in line with the root note.
Last. when the input signal wis driven into the red it distorts with a great analog grind.
That is the kind of thing EHX is known for.
Going beyond the norm and making it brilliant.
Hope that helps in your quest Andy.

Hi Bill,
Thanks very much for the info.
It is really the Polyphonic pitch shift that I am having problems with, the Hog pitch shifting sounds very good to me, no real artifacts.
I can get a good sound using the 6 string audios from a hex pickup but getting the same quality out of a normal pickup is not so easy to do without introducing latency (for me anyway!).
I will keep trying anyway.
Cheers
