I've been putting together a small recording studio centered around my modular synthesizer. I've been thinking about building a Paia Tubehead as a gain stage between synth and the recorder. Does anyone here have any experience with these units?

Yeah sounds good Wink

I've build the tube preamp with all the Tape op article mods and included a line in to it (5k1 res at the input +- 30db pad). Driving the tubes with a good analog synth is really fun, it gives that tube compression to the sound, using the solidstate parts yields to less interesting results or should I say more transparent.

I would buy the mic pre over the tube head, as you get 2 extra mic-pre and I don't think there's much of a price diff (might be wrong).

I've build 2, one with a JJ tube and the other with a sovtek for different flavors, and the Tape op mod does good to the pre's (more open top end and less noise).

let me know if you build it.
