Edit: I've considerably improved this concept. Check out this patch:
http://www.electro-music.com/forum/post-287983.html#287983

This patch passes incoming audio through an (inaudible) 1 second delay line. When activating sustain, this delay goes into 100% feedback and is played back by a quad-grain engine, thus creating an ambient style sustaining drone from the source material. It's a tool for live performance. Eg. sustain a chord from your guitar in order to play ont top of it afterwards.

Controls:
Page A:
INPUT Source: Select source stereo bus
CHANNEL Source: Select L or R channel from the selected bus
INPUT COMPRESSOR: Compress inputted audio

Page B:
SUSTAIN Engage: Engages sustain. Idea Assign to a footswitch for hands-free operation.
SUSTAIN Mode: Select between "Hold" and "Toggle". In "Hold"-mode, audio is sustained as long as the "Engage" button is depressed. In "Toggle"-mode, hitting the "Engage" button will toggle between holding and releasing the audio.
ENVELOPE Attack, Decay: Control of the fade in/fade out of the sustaining drone.
X-Fade Time: Transition time between opening and closing the delay line feedback loop.
GRAIN Size: As it says.
GRAIN SIZE Random: Randomises the size for all 4 grain generators. Keep it at a value other than zero, otherwise the grains will always stay in sync and not create the desired "audio cloud".
GRAIN PITCH ModRate: The grains feature subtle pitch modulation to make the sound thicker. Rate controls the modulation speed.

Stereo delay, reverb and output section.

cheers,
t

Update:
New version which now also features grain cloud delay functionality. The controls have changed a little:
Page B:
MODE Sustain/G-Cloud: Toggles between sustainer and grain cloud delay mode.
G-Delay FB: Controls delay feedback level when in grain cloud delay mode.
