hello mr 15million posts! to your comments, please, allow me to retort...

Right. And you have built a Gakken have you? How much solder did you have to use? Rolling Eyes Laughing

The solder bit was a joke (obviously - as if anybody cares about the cost of solder.) Lighten up.

erm, and hello? Have you not seen the videos too, on YouTube?? Shocked Rolling Eyes here, and here?? Confused

HA! I knew you'd bring up the youtube vids. Yeh I've seen em, but guess what, they don't mean sh*t. The unit is still months from release. So again I'll state the obvious for you - No ones heard this thing yet (as it will sound once released, obviously, again...)

Plus, you trust youtube for sound demos?! BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! roflmao! Laughing Laughing

On your nuts perhaps? lol

v-un-v wrote:
You can, you know, also build an authentic MS10 filter for less than a tenner?!!

'Authentic' hey? You wanna ask korg how authentic it is? And before you point out the obvious (again), yes schmatically it's the same, but try to re-sell ur 'authentic' filter, and you'll see why that korg badge IS actually worth something.

v-un-v wrote:
So there you go. The Monotron. Cute, but pointless! Laughing

Just like your opinion! hehe.

Seriously tho, camparing the gakken with the korg is like comparing an sh101 with an ms10 - feature wise - very silmilar, sound wise - completely different. If you campare on features alone, well... Laughing

PS - Please don't take all this personally - I actually love friendly arguments / debates on forums about synths. Thanks for the opportunity. Cool

If the OP-1 is $400 I will probably buy one (and an iPad! Very Happy )

I've used a Korg Ms20 for more years than i care to remember, and also used the Legacy plug-in -which does sound a bit like the real thing, but not, of course, identical, which is what you'd expect. I would doubt whether Korg will use the same circuitry as the original. If it is truly "analogue" (and not modelled), at best they'll use a custom IC to replicate the response of the Ms20 LPF -but more likely to use off the shelf mult-purpose chip and configure it for the monotron... Still, for the price I suppose it might be ok to give as a gadget present for the synthesist-who-has-everything Laughing Laughing

Actually the original MS-20 (first generation) did use a custom IC for the filter. Later it was replaced with a LM13600 design.

Look I came here for an argument and that's just contradiction! Laughing Laughing

Tis all good, we'll just have to wait till release to see if this thing has any worth. I save my judgement till then. (And then - IT'S ON BUDDY! Laughing )

Yup, iPad looks awesome. Shame the apps are sandboxed, but I'm sure there'll be a way round that soon enough:)

What about the external audio input? Can I run vocals or guitar through it's filter?

Moi??! I don't think so! Laughing Laughing Laughing

I'm a bad slacker meself Very Happy

The Gakken can be modded for external in, just look on the web Smile

Interesting juxtaposition of modesty and attitude here.

$55 for a Gakken plus my personal time and effort to add external in vs. $85 for a Korg Monotron with working external in out of the box.

I'd be more interested in the Korg. I'm not that desperate to save $30.

I bet you anything that the filter inside the Monotron, is simply a LM13700- because that's pretty much what it was in the original (actually an LM13600- but pretty much the same thing).

I suppose it could be modded into a synth module? But what's the point??

Okay, okay, okay......you guys win..... Twisted Evil Laughing Laughing Laughing

I was thinking of using this Korg as a cheap analog filter effect.

However, v-un-v seems pretty hot and bothered about it. I don't want anyone to go to the asylum just because I bought a Monotronic.

In seriousness, I'm finally learning about how I can patch external audio through my Moog Voyager's filter. I'd probably just use that instead.

Arguments and attitude aside, having a monotron connected to or used together with a Moog Voyager paints an entertaining picture in my mind. Smile

jfox, so is it actually available in JP, or just preorders? I can't read Japanese to tell.

iPad? Got one on the way (3G goodness), but I want the monotron too. Much cheaper. Very Happy
