Streaming and Network address translation |
|
|
After signing up for the upcoming Summer Solstice 2010 event I started thinking about how to figure out the technical details of it and discovered that my internet provider uses network address translation. It means that I don't have a direct connection to internet that prevents the use of an application like Nicecast.
The only way I have to solve the problem (afaik) is to get a public IP address.
My provider sells it at a small hourly fee.
I have already tried it out with Nicecast and it seems to work, at least when I am brodcasting.
I don't know yet how to configure it to send data to the electro-music radio that does the broadcast. I guess some operator will give me some hint _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube

I dont think NAT would be a problem Carlo for radio participation ... as I understand it Nicecast can act as a server as well. For such usage a fixed IP would be needed, but not for beaming your signal to one of our servers.
When I get home this evening (probably around 21:00 your time) I'll make a port (server) for you and will PM you the connection details. Once you got those it would be handy if you'd go to the chatroom - people like Paul or Les would be able to talk you through the Nicecast configuration. _________________ Jan

I guess you are right because I just beamed my signal to the port you gave me and it was successfully open _________________ homepage - blog - forum - youtube
