The other two are Naqoyqatsi and Powaqqatsi.
Love Glass. Attended a concert at Peabody once, but I think I would appreciate it even more now. |

Awesome!!
When did you see him?
i seen him once doing the Film Soundtrack thing for Dracula, and once with....uhhh i forget the name of the group (not Kronos Quartet)...something like Tin Can something.
Thesecond one got pretty experimental at the end. The film one was really cool...played behind the film screen and occasionally light showing through to show the band shadows....Good Stuff!! |

I don't remember if I saw him or someone performing one of his works, but it was at the Peabody Conservatory at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
I wasn't as into that kind of stuff back then, which is why I said I'd appreciate it much more now. |

YES!! BangOnaCan-Thats what they were called- Thanks Pyro!!
i could imagine that's who you seen him with (possibly), Audio... cuz Glass just played a few songs with them, and kinda in the background. i think maybe one of the songs was a solo glass piece though....
Regardless, it's nice to know there are folks into him around here!!

Prototype 2 is moving along.
Inventor is going to help with the wiring schematics this time around, to allow more flexibility. With the last model, i only tapped into about 1/3-1/2 of what the circuit is capable of.
What i'm most excited about this time around, is that the External Signal will now be routed to go through the circuit.
Don't know how that will sound yet, but every other synth i've worked with that had that, was awesome. Love that flexibility!!
We're running slightly behind schedule, but we're still looking at the first demonstration happening on the 18th, at the code:11 EP release ChatRoom Party. Tester models will be out shortly afterwards, as soon as we're sure about button configurations. |

So i just got done listening to Inventor playing with the new Prototype....
and i'm ALL SMILES!!
i'm pretty excited about this, i wish i had my hands on it NOW, cuz i have some songs that need it.
Les has used a different chip that gives it a clearer tone, and has 3 switches and 3 sliders running. Already we got something pretty sweet. i don't have ANY gear that sounds like it.
We havent tested the external signal processing yet, but i'm anxious to see what will happen.
Les says he doesn't care much for the saturated sound, and says it's not as musical enough.
i have to disagree with him here. This was the sound i was hoping for, and compared to other popular noise boxes, it is much much more musical and versatile.
He has improved some of the control, allowing to bounce back and forth from the heavy saturated synth sound, to the "pingy" sound set much easier, more controlled.
Props to Inventor.
i'm starry eyed here. He's put together something i dig on so many levels.
Much Respect. |

i'm anxious for it too, after hearing it last night, makes it much harder to wait
i wanna get my Glitch on!!
The new chip really makes a difference. When you listen to the recordings i of the last one, you'll notice this slight flat sound. The new chip doesn't have that, so it sounds a lil brighter, and tighter.
i don't quite understand how chips can make a difference in tonal quality, but it does.
Soooooo excited!! |

Ooh, yes, hardware makes all the difference.
I've heard some people say the Virus TI sounds better than the desktop version. The only way this makes sense is if the desktop version uses different hardware, and well... why would Virus do that? |

Hospital? What happened?
I'll be listening as soon as I pop the old hearing aids in for the day (eating breakkie, about to shower). |

I was overmedicated and had collected some water in my lungs, giving me shortness of breath. They figured out new meds for me and I feel fantastic!

Glad you're better!
Just took a listen. Noice! Do you have plans to add external audio source in, CV in/out, MIDI in/out? This thing has tons of potential! |

It has an 1/8" stereo input jack that gets summed into the KS loop. The design is simple, so it will fit on a fairly small circuit board, smaller then the Eagle CAD small sized board, which means that I have room to add some circuit bending features. This will include a patch panel so that the Boolean Sequencer can be rewired, chip swapping of the Boolean Sequencer logic chip and the Karplus Strong Bucket Brigade Device chip, plus several component value adjustments that can be made.
So the product is perfect either as is, or as a super-easy starter DIY hobbyist project.
Right now my only concern is the battery. We want to have a rechargeable battery, but alas I have no skills in that area. I think we'll do the first run of boards with a standard 9V battery and I'll learn how to add the rechargeable feature later.
I gotta say that 1:11 is the perfect business partner. He's always cheerful and always points out mainly the positive aspects of my work and also clearly identifies the flaws in a gentle way. It's a pleasure to work with the guy.

Thanks for puttin up a Sample, Les.
Glad to hear you're feeling better and back to work!!
Soundin cool, Bud!!
With the previous version, the audio in was summed at the final outs right?
So now, will an external signal also be run through the filter/mod?
i'm new to reading schematics, but to me it looks like it's coming in later.
We wanna be able to warp that in-coming signal as much as possible!
Yeah, when you've been in the deepest pits of hell, it makes the minor bumps in the road not seem so bad.
But if i didn't have music, i'd be pretty dysfunctional. |

The input signal appears at the summing amp's input, which is the best place to put it because um, there's a summing amp there already! haha... otherwise I'd have to add another chip. The design is highly optimized as the result of years of work by myself with the help of others. This is my "minimal functionality, minimal complexity design", or just "minimal design".
Actually it is a slightly rearranged KS loop in that the delay and filter are swapped in order. This is to accomplish exactly the effect you want, more pizzaz on the input than otherwise. It just hits the output before the delay line, but that has no effect on the sound because the output of a delay is the same as the input ideally. This method also permits the stim to have less of a sqare-ish sound when it strikes the loop.
So in other words it's this way cause of good reasons and is actually doing what you say you prefer, so COOL ON THAT BRO! Ahhh, nap time left me in a good mood!
Now if you want some really morphed sound, that's when in a future product we add a second "resonator" KS loop on the output - that will really make the input signal go worwamalamayammawowow if you you know what I mean!

and oh yeah, p.s. the existing product can be that resonator on the output by swapping the BBD chip and chaining one into the other. In fact, users can hook these things up into chains, loops, meshes, etc. and play games with mixing equipment at the junctures of the device. Or one could simply put an effects pedal or heck even a PC with some soft synthy stuff in it from the output to the input of the 1:11 controller to make all kinds of weird sounds. It's creativity in a box for a fairly low price! Man, i'm like rededicated to this project again, new health and rest are making me think clearer than ever (and a little coffee too)...

Alright then, we'll do the whomwhamawhrol next model!
For now, how bout we print 30 of these, scheduled for April sometime?
Wanna give the testers some time to sit with em to provide some final feedback before the print. |

Absolutely, April should give the testers a little time to work with the design and make suggestions, especially as to component values. For example i have electrolytic caps of 1u, 10u, and 100u to work with, but i really need in-between values to do this right. Oh yeah, I still have budget for that... Hmmm, we'll talk in email about such details and how they would affect schedule.

Sounds Good Les!!
BTW,
Excuse the blatant promotion here, but....
Don't forget to Tune in this Friday for the code:11 EP release chatroom party!!
This is a collaboration between Mr. Cold and myself, and the music turned out pretty cool.
Would love to see you guys there |
