Modulaire Klanksynthese: KlankLab I
Master Class door Roland Kuit
Start: voorjaar 2012

Duur en niveau van de Master Class
De Master Class KlankLab bestaat uit 12 bijeenkomsten van 2 uur:
1 uur theorie en 1 uur practicum met begeleiding.
Duur van de Master Class: ca 3 maanden.
Niveau: intermediate en advanced.

Wat is modulaire klanksynthese
Klankontwerp en compositie door middel van modulaire synthese. Een methode om bestaande en/of nieuwe vormen van synthese te onderzoeken en/of te creëren.
Modulaire synthese denken nodigt uit tot experiment en tegelijk biedt het vrijheid in vergelijking met de ‘fixed-structure’ synthese.

Leerdoelen en methode
In algemene zin leer je de betekenis van synthese modules en hoe deze toe te passen in allerlei vormen.
Daartoe maak je kennis met begrippen uit de sonologie. De docent leert jou deze op een intuïtieve en creatieve wijze toe te passen.
In de Master Class wordt gebruik gemaakt van de Clavia G2Demo modulaire softsynth met behulp van het e-book: SoundLab I van Roland Kuit.

De Master Class geeft ruimte voor individuele leerdoelen van deelnemers,
bijvoorbeeld met het aanreiken van gerichte opdrachten.

Over de docent
At the age of six, he received his first piano and recorder lessons and started making his first improvisations with these instruments. The tape recorder at home was used to record these sessions. Other instruments, like the violin and trombone got his attention too during these recordings. He started to record all kinds of noises. He gave up recorder lessons and started playing the flute at the age of eleven. One year later he was accepted at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. His teachers were
Mirjam Nastasi and Marijke Bakker. After playing Baroque music, his interest went via Debussy, Faure to the more modern composers like Escher, van Dijk, Fukushima. He started to explore jazz and pop music too and electronic music caught his interest.
After a short study at the Vrije Academie in The Hague, painting and graphics, he went to the Institute for Sonology in Utrecht. There he studied analogue modular sound design and composition by Jaap Vink and Frits Weiland. VOSIM by Werner Kaegi and Fortran V music by Gottfried M. Koenig and Stan Tempelaars(1981-1985). He became involved in making sound art as well. Numerous expositions would follow. Later on he went to Paris to study interactive composition and acoustics at the IRCAM by Kaija Saariaho and Philippe Manoury (2000). His
favorite instruments are the Nord Modular and the G2 made by Clavia. In 2010, he started painting again. Minimalistic and fundamental textures on canvas. Presently, he is artistic director of OEMN (2012, Opleidingen Elektronische Muziek Nederland) and associate professor (docent) at the University of Amersfoort.
