Hi all,

Well, I think this is about as far as I can take these particular ideas for a while. This one uses a lot of the recent warmth & filter routing tricks all combined to make one really huge pad patch.

I've added a lot of extra control circuitry to minimize the number of knob assignments for easy tweaking (single detune control, single-knob filter routing control, single knobs for dual chorus rate, dual phaser rate, etc.). The combination of LP-Notch-HP controls, Parallel-Serial control, and fc Offset control allow a lot of variety with minimal knobs. Enjoy!

Yeah, sorry 'bout that. Notice the DSP count for the patch. I think it's a personal record You can get a 4th voice by deleting everything in the FX area (and the associated FX routing panner modules in the Poly area) and just use outboard FX instead.

But if you tend to use the G2/NM1 for these keyboard-style synth patches as opposed to, say, a multislot monosequencer synth, you really need the voice expansion card.

why do some of the patches i load say i can only get 7 out of 8 voices when I'm running on an expanded G2? This patch says 7(Cool. It's not the only one, but I thought I'd raise the question...

Great pads, of course! Lots of animation and extremely smooth.

Because your G2 is expanded you have 8 DSP's.

The effects area needs one DSP because its over 50% so there are 7 DSPs left for voices. As the voice area is over 50% as well any DSP can handle one voice only, so there are 7 voices.

Likewise on an unexpanded G2 you'll get three voices.

To get 8 voices drop the effects from the patch, as Dave suggested.

Thanks ever so much, Dave
This is an excellent beautiful patch.
I found myself playing John Lennon's song "Imagine" right after loading it, a song I never knew how to play until I heard this pad.
Great Work, Sir!

Thanks!

I was playing Peter Gabriel's 'San Jacinto' using variation #1.

Drama!

Dave
I discovered your patch last night Cool the look of it is outstandigly mind-boggling, nevertheless it sounds beautifully and very expressive.
I'm in awe Exclamation thanks Very Happy
p.s.
I won't even try to trace the line of thoughts that brought you to build it Wink maybe one day...

Hmmm, after hearing Dave's excellent talk at Chateau Sonore this is much easier to understand. Dave is big on cross faders. Often parallel paths are cross faded to keep the timbre transforming. It seems like brute force, but is is a very powerful technique.

Thanks you guys, glad you like it. This particular patch is one that I find myself coming back to again and again, especially when I'm trying to write something new. It just seems to inspire ideas for me more than a lot of other patches. Odd how that is.

But it's a really extravagant and uneconomical patch. I mean, there are two complete sets of dual filters and two warmth filters and two volume EG/VCAs, just because the oscs are detuned & panned BEFORE the filters so everything after that has to be doubled for a stereo chain, whereas you would normally create a stereo spread AFTER a single monaural signal chain by just adding some kind of chorus or panned pitch shifter.

I made a few attempts to build something that sounds as good and as big as this one, but with less DSP resources to allow more polyphony.
Never did quite get it, but now I'm kinda inspired to try again....
