Does the color of the patch cords indicate anything special?

I"m working through the Max tutorials, and noticed something odd.

I've noticed that- the patch cords in the patch for tutorial 6 are black.
When I add objects to the patch and connect them, the patch cords are grey.

Does this color indicate functionality?

This may explain why the patches I'm making don't work- but I don't understand why (yet).

Patch cords can be set to be any color. Also there are special patch cords used for audio and jitter.

Good to know. I was thinking about the patch cords on the G2 and how different colors do have specific meanings
