sell your mp3 albums |

Posted by Bjorn Lynne on beyond_em:
Dear fellow EM fans,
Most of you probably don't know me, so I'll just start by saying
that I have been active in the EM and progressive scenes for about
11 years; I released my first album "Hobbits & Spaceships" in 1992
and have since released many albums of electronic, progressive and
other related music genres. My CDs have been ranging from full-on
commercial releases in the record stores, to completely independent
releases just put out on my personal label and sold on my web site.
I would like to announce that as of this week I have started a
publishing company and set up a new music sales web site:
www.zonkmusic.com . This is a site that sells instantly downloadable
music albums in 192 kbps mp3 files. I am now inviting bands and
artists (particularly Electronic and Progressive related, but also
other genres) to take part and put their professional album releases
up for sale on the site.
The site opened 2 weeks ago and has had a great start. We've had
sales every single day, even though it hasn't been advertised yet.
Zonk Music is a *shop*, not a label and not a publisher. We do not
want or need any rights to the music, other than that of any other
record store. Ownership and rights to the music remain unchanged.
We also do not want to bypass record labels or squeeze labels or
promotors out of the music scene. The music industry is at the
beginning of a shift from being based around Compact Disc, to being
based around legally sold and downloaded music files. This does not
mean that we are a threat to record labels, any more than Amazon.com
or other music stores.
In keeping with the traditions of Electronica, Progressive and other
related styles, ZonkMusic.Com is about selling *albums*, not
singles. There are plenty of highly commercialised sites selling the
latest Britney Spears single, and we are not going there. We sell
albums only, and although pop, rock and other music styles are
welcome, my own background in the Electronica/Progressive scene has
given the site (for now, anyway) a leaning towards these music
styles.
All albums purchased at www.zonkmusic.com also contain high-
resolution artwork files of the album cover, so if the customer
wants to, he/she can print the cover him/herself and make a real CD
to put in the CD-rack.
Personally I have put 3 of my albums up on the site, and since I did
that, the downloadable albums have sold more copies than the actual
CDs. I think it shows that a lot of people now are more likely to
buy an album if they can get it right away and not have to wait for
it to arrive in the post, and not have to pay any shipping.
When an album is sold at www.zonkmusic.com , 60% of the sale price
goes directly to the artist or label (whoever we deal with), which
is far more than what they get if the albums is sold at a record
store. The artist or label decides what price the albums has on the
site.
Please take a moment today to visit www.zonkmusic.com and if you are
an artist or label with professional quality releases available,
please consider a relationship with ZonkMusic.
Here is an advertisement that will show up in some magazines and
fanzines throughout the autumn and winter:

Kind regards,

This comes across as certainly being worth a look into, and I think I will help myself right now.

The site seems nice. Do you know if the files contains any CRM management? These are plain mp3s? So then Lynne has not incorporated CRM? _________________ A Charity Pantomime in aid of Paranoid Schizophrenics descended into chaos yesterday when someone shouted, "He's behind you!"
