Envelope generator AR/AD v.s. ADSR |

Hello All,
I am back again as I am lining up my after Christmas projects for winter 2014. I am finally going to build something (Yay)!
Now this is a question that I have been going over in my mind for quite some time and I tried to do a search for it here in the forums, but didn't come up with much.
AR v.s. ADSR envelopes:
Anyway, it seems that the favored envelope generator on the MFOS site is a simple AR envelope. Now in the past when playing with keyboard based analog synths, most of them have ADSR envelopes and this is what I am normally used to. I guess it was/is popular for creating bell and piano sounds which have a distinctive attack/decay and sustain portions. But that in itself speaks volumes for the amount of sounds you could create with such an envelope generator.
String sounds pretty much had a slow attack with a short or no decay followed by a very long sustain and a fairly short release. So here a simple AR envelope would be fine.
It overall seems to be the traditional ADSR envelope is more fun to make sounds with. BUT I got to thinking really hard recently as to why MFOS doesn't include these with many of their all in one synths. I think I MIGHT have come up with my own answer. But I want to put it to the test here in the forum and see what others think.
Now, an ADSR envelope would be more beneficial on a KEYBOARD based synth. But most of the synths on the MFOS site are meant for sound effects that are usually NOT triggered by a keyboard but rather are cyclic in nature in which they would generally have a very short sustain portion so this had me wondering that might be the reason for the simpler AR envelopes. Still though, when it comes to TIMBRE (meaning the filter), I would still lean towards an ADSR envelope.
Could it be costs? PCB space? Really I don't know.
Would the AR generators be enough for most sounds, or do most of you here agree that an ADSR is far superior?
Thank You,
