Hi all,
I am considering getting a Korg SQ-1 to use as a sequencer for my soundlab.
I see in the specs it can output V/Octave CV and gate but after searching the web I can't find anything for this couple machines, nor anything from mfos.

Anyone tried this?

I got an SQ-1 last week, for exactly the purpose you described. The CV output from the SQ-1 works perfectly with the Soundlab Mini Synth, but I'm having problems with the gate functionality. Gate adjustments on the SQ-1 have no effect on the SL -- in fact, when I unplug the gate cable while the sequencer is running, there's no difference in the sound.

So either:
My SL external gate input is no good. I'm going to check the connections later.
-or-
The GATE OUT from the SQ-1 is not compatible with the GATE IN on the SL.

I suspect the latter to be the case. From what I can tell, the SQ-1 has a gate output of 10V, while the SL external gate protects against gate signals greater than 9V. That might be the problem.

Hello,

I don't think, that 10volts would be a problem for the Soundlab Mini, the zener in the gate input limits the signal, but does not prevent from triggering, when the gate voltage goes up to 10 volts.
I think the problem ist rather the orientation of the trigger signal: the SoundlabMiniSynth triggers when gate voltage goes high, and according to http://www.synthmuseum.com/korg/korsq1001.html the SQ10 sets the gate voltage from only 5 volts to 0, so an inverter & level shifter should help.

Oops, just noticed that you have an SQ1, not an SQ10. But maybe the problem ist same Wink
