I am at a crossroads in the design of my synth.

Until now I have temporarily attached my boards to random pieces of hardboard. When I am happy with my selection of modules then I will start to mount my boards onto something more sturdy.

I use 1/4" jacks as I like the feel of the jack and the way the cable hangs. To me the smaller jacks and cables look like dried spaghetti.

However, I know that the Eurorack system is popular and I might want to pass my system on in the years ahead.

Has anyone built a 3U panel with 1/4" jacks or should I stick with 5U panels?

I know Moog has some Eurorack modules. Do they use 1/4" jacks?

What is the consensus?

If your idea is to "pass your system on" and you use 3U, you need to use 1/8" jacks. Nobody who has just Euro is going to have 1/4" patch cords.

In my opinion, the most important factor in the decision is your usage, not some hypothetical future person.
