I was able to pack both the monosynth and polysynth versions of the tonal noise synth into one program. The monosynth responds to the base MIDI channel, the polysynth version responds to the base channel + 1. Monosynth has portamento and pitch bend via the wheel and the polysynth has pitch bend via the wheel. Both synths feed into the special effects module which currently does reverb. The polysynth was tested at 64 voices.

I've just recently been able to port a dsPIC program I call Random Timbre Synth (RTS) to the Raspberry Pi.

It's a monosynth that runs in stereo. Each of the left and right channels has an independent RTS driving it and the sound on headphones is interestlingly spatial.

The synth works by generating random wavetables at a rate fast enough for realtime. MIDI clock or an internal timer can be used to cause the synth to use a new wavetable. The switch from the current wavetable to the new wavetable is done as a crossfade the timing of which is variable via MIDI CC. Portamento is supported and a reverb effect is included. The wavetable generation algorithm was designed to have fairly constant amplitude and is band limited sufficiently that alias artifacts are not audible. The synth makes a very nice ever changing drone sound.

ksdual_demo.mp3 was made with a dual harp Karplus-Strong synth. It has two 16 string harps and is capable of 16 voices. The two harps are tuned slightly differently. The synth has a reverb effect and pre-reverb soft clipping distortion before going into the reverb.
