It's down to a difference of philosophy.

With monosynths (or even polysynths), the designer has smoothed the signalpath, so it all flows as a good-sounding machine. Remove all the unnecessary controls and jacks, and optimize what remains. The philosophy is to get a good sound going from the keyboard to your ears in a short amount of time.

With modulars, the designer doesn't know WHAT the end user is going to do with a module, and so it is as open ended as possible, which entails giving the end user as many options as possible. The philosophy is to have as many options as is feasible on a given module, within the design spec.

Well, I recently ordered 40 mini jack input connectors, and thougt it would suffice for a while, but I also need a few multiples and thats 8 connectors per 2x4 multiple, so 8 per unit.
I need at least 3, so thats 24 connectors....
And that is just a passive unit....

It's easy to get a small fortune in knobs as well.
