There's a major milestone ahead: 10 years of syndae. This summer, in August, syndae celebrates its 10th birthday. What started out as a tiny project to support the Electronic Circus festival turned into more the 400 episodes of electronic and ambient music delight. I am quite proud of keeping up with the (nearly) weekly show. And thus I will enter new territories. In fact, I plan to release a pressed CD around syndae's birthday. And therefore I invite any artist to submit a track to be considered for the album. The complete set of rules can be found at the website, as there is a base theme to be taken into account. Yes, I am really curious about how this turns out. And meanwhile, this edition will cover quite some ground in styles one can listen to on syndae. Have awonderful time with tracks by Blinky Blinky Computerband (Dystopia), AeTopus (Totem Totum), Jazzcomputer.org (The Ambient Way), Eagle (The Lost Kosmonaut), Tatyana Kalmykova & The Living Earth (Craters: Suavjarvi / TEMS Compilation), and The Ghost of 3.13 (Even Though it Feels Like Home).

Exciting view ahead at

Recently I started watching a TV series, rather a comedy I think, maybe with some embedded commerce criticism. It's usually not the kind of shows I tend to watch, but I expected something different alltogether when reading about Mr. Robot. Now, this series still cought me, because it is not the ordinary kind of comedy, some crazy hacker with big memory issues trying to free the world from an evil corporation. The computer stuff made me watch it in the first place. Well, I found the show quite odd, so I stayed onto it. And in the end I think this is what I am also often looking for in music: The out of the ordinary kind. Stuff that is off-beat. Music that surprises me and does not comply to my expectations. To me, the tracks on tonight's edition are such kind of music, and I hope you enjoy the experience of listening to them as much as I did. Have a fine 30 minutes run with Colten Tyler Williams (Radiance of Resistance), Forrest Fang (Scenes from a Ghost Train), Steppe-Scape (The Great Steppe Live), MacroNoise (Various Species), Uwe Gronau (When Every Word Was Singing), Walt Thisney (Galactic Voodoo).

Sound a la surprise at

30 minutes. Only thirty of these short fragments in time. That's all I have for my show. Not really the perfect setting for ambient music, is it? Similar to Berlin School, ambient tracks usually tend to be long and evolving. And that is also the point why I like this kind of music. It's not repeating in itself, like popular music does. There is development in the acoustic scenery presented by the artist. And the best thing about the music is, you can here it in two different ways. Either as music in the background, which does not sink in, does not disturb your activity. Or you could listen carefully and let the music drive your thoughts. Crazy stuff. So, either way, on syndae I can only give you glimpses of these fine tracks. I hope nevertheless you find the time to listen to the music the way you want. On this edition you will find music by NoizeFilter Music (Ambient Road), Numina (The Chrome Plateau), Infinite Third (Listen(ing)), centrozoon (217 IV), Adeptus Mechanicus & Lutz Thuns (For a Lifetime).

Today I watched a short talk on editorial content generation. If you follow the developments in AI these days -self driving cars, bots beating a chess master, and so on- you won't be surprised to find that the same exists for generating texts and videos. Well, syndae is all about music. So I thought, what about automated music generation? A short Internet search tells me they are onto it. And I am not talking about algorithmic approaches. Projects exist which use artificial intelligence for analysing existing music and extracting patterns in notes, styles, and sound. And, blimey, based on the results these programs are able to generate new music. What I did not find (yet?) is something like Alpha Zero, which learns about harmonics and creates new compositions seemingly out of thin air. But I am quite sure there will be such a thing soon. For now, let's stick to artistic music originally created by humans. Tonight's tracks are very much danceable, composed by Obri (Afterglow), Bratenschneider (No Time At All), DR-42 (Dossier Bordeaux 2017), Silicon Slave (Ad Nauseam), Futurum Sonat (eARTh), Jozef Nemcek (Black Hole Collision).

When I was a kid, I loved playing games of many sorts. It started with board games like Ludo or later Checkers. I tried chess, but never got into these strategy games. When I grew up, the first video games and finally computers came around (yeah, I am that old). It was fun playing pong. But later on adventures I liked most. Getting older, I somehow lost interest in games. Occasional some computer game, but in the past years nothing at all. Well, to make a non-story short, my gaming interest changed a lot over the years. But when it comes to music, since my youth it quite stayed the same. My musical taste broadened and varied, of course, but I still love those electronic treats from the 70s and 80s. One more reason to come back to this kind of music on syndae. But make no mistake, the music on this show is not old but brand new. There is a different in sound, and the tracks feel more fresh, but their ancestry is undeniable. Join me for some fantastic modern traditional EM on this show with tracks by P'Faun (Sp'roque), DASK (Sol), Klangzaun, Glen Alexander, Perceptual Defense & Syndromeda (Live at Cosmic Nights 2017).

So we were at a Persian restaurant recently. Haven't been for a while. The have an appetizer on the menu which simply is to die for: Kashke Bademjan. Really, I could jump right into it. And I am usually no big fan of eggplant dishes. So it's definitely all about the recipe that makes it special and surely one of my favourites. Ok, what's that to do with syndae? Well, the main point is that a composition does not have to consist of my favourite instruments or sounds to be on syndae. More than that I don't have to explicitely like a song to have it on the show. As long as it is interesting and somewhat unique and I see a potential for it to be of some listeners likings, it goes on the playlist. It might be the complete track that catches my ear, or maybe a detail. And I hope you listen closely and always find some music you enjoy as well. Tonight I am very easy with you listeners, very much likable music and melodies to come, playing tracks by Ian Boddy & Erik Wøllo (Meridian), Kalpataru Tree (Rhythmic Fractals of Earths Imagination), Harald Nies (Axial), aAirial (Wanderings EP (extended)), Curious Inversions (Iterations), Jesper Sørensen (Dark Star).

It is a bit confusing that ambient music actually is not about ambience. If you listen to the music, it mostly is rather serene, quiet, unobstrusive. And it is rather meant this way, to stay in the background and create a specific atmosphere for people, to support an easier mood. The goal of a podcast, however, is not to make you turn a deaf ear. You can still run it in the background, although my voice might disrupt your focus. But you can also listen closely and dive into the details of the fantastic sound sculptures the tracks offer your mind. On this show you will hear music by Brian Eno (Ambient 4: On Land), Ken Elkinson (Music for Telecommuting Vols. 3 & 4), NoizeFilter Music (Fragments), Wolfgang Gsell & Lutz Thuns (Friends of Ambient 27), Eisenlager & Martin Neuhold (Concrete Manipulation Improvisation), and Wolfproject.

So last week we celebrated the serene world, and I don't want to wake you up the harsh way. Thus we go a bit forward tonight, but ont too fast. And when I am in the need for being aurally comforted, dub and chill material most times is a good choice in my ears. It's always great to simply lean back, close my eyes and fall into the patient grooves and moves of this kind of music. No more words necessary, I think. Take your seating position, and enjoy tracks by Illocanblo (Mercury), Jim Black (Yoctosecond), NOID (TEMS. Craters: Suavjarvi), joergmueller (Heavy Dub Vol. 3), Giriu Dvasios (Gydantis Lietus), Protyv (Amso).

I'm not sure what one may expect from the first day of spring, well, I didn't expect to see the world around covered in snow. Crazy times. Like stopping before a railroad gate and expect a train to pass by ... ok, well, consequently there will be a train passing, just takes endlessly before it does. Or coming to halt at a traffic light in the midth of nowhere late at night, waiting for minutes watching empty roads in all directions. Well, or when the clock is set one hour forward for summer time, which is happening this weekend over here. It all feels like you are wasting your time. Not so with syndae of course, where you will get the finest electronic music, no doubt. Like the tracks you will get in this edition, thankfully served by Obri (Afterglow), Nearfield (Mars (Reissue)), moonbooter vs. BatteryDead (Live Muenster 2017), Faber (Monumentum), Kri Tik (North Capital), Inside Out.

Not everybody celebrates Easter, although it outgrew its religious meaning similar to christmas. The term Easter Egg got even more popular, not for the festivities but as a hidden feature in computer games, movies, and more. To me, electronic music and relatives are quite a collection of Easter Eggs within music in general. With only a few exceptions, most people rather listen to the ever repeating popular and furbished mirror-bright artists. Well, they miss out a lot, as to be heard on tonight's edition with extraordinarily fine tracks by Vangelis (Direct), Otarion (Under Surface), Ian Boddy & Erik Wøllo (Meridian), Dreams Beat (Dreams Beat), Eagle (The Last Kosmonaut), and Jarguna (Pareidolia).

Space, the final frontier. When thinking about drifting through the vast emptiness -imagine there only is about 4E-21 percent of matter in the universe- it's mostly some languorous or serene sound that comes to mind with respect to music. At least to me. Although there is the genre of space music, which, well, yes, does somehow fit to travelling through space, but it's not my first thought. So, when thinking of space in general, and this does not have to be outer space, it could simply be a large plain, some field, usually a peaceful and serene sight, it's either something majestic or ambient reflecting my impressions. And ambient it is for tonight's edition. The one time, where 30 minutes seem quite short for a show. And thus, there are only three tracks on tonight, composed by The Long Light (Hiraeth), Jeff Greinke (Before Sunrise), and Jaja (Music For Space Observation).

Do you believe in superstition? Black cats crossing, lucky pennies (or the equivalent in your local currency), knocking on wood ... I guess the list is endless, and different between countries as well. Now, today is Friday the 13th, which is considered bad luck in the Western world. There is actually a word for it: "Paraskevidekatriaphobia". At least they do such words in non-german languages, too. But anyway, It's called superstition, because its considerred an irrational belief. Well, who knows. Not at all bad, but maybe a bit darker, comes tonights edition of syndae. I hope you enjoy the tracks nonetheless, which are by Blinky Blinky Computerband (Collide), Depeche Mode (Spirit Deluxe), Nick R 61 (Spirare / Compilation), Level -1 (Mother Brain), One Dub Connection (Digital Family Vol. 7 / Compilation), Listening Satellites (Everything is a Glitch).

Two weeks ago we still had snow, now it's quite over 30C at our place. Definitely a time to slow down and have the music at a not too high pace. And we are visiting the earlier era of electronic music, at least in style and feeling, as the music of course is young and recently released. While you will have a relaxed time with syndae, it is still very intense and thrilling to listen to. Well, nature greens up and blinds go down for the sun. Best time to lean back and listen carefully to tracks by TaboTago (Kymatica), Loomeer (Anesthetic 9-16), Michael Hodges (Explorations), Yves Potin (Life - Unfolding), TFSL (III).

It's just one weekend and the deadline of the call for tracks for the syndae CD is about to close. I can say I am quite excited about putting together an album, and I already have fabulous tracks on my drive to be selected from. Thankfully, it's not me who has to decide which ones to take. I am sorry for any of the tracks not to make it. So, currently I am thinking about the packaging of the album and its design. And actually the name. Any suggestions on how such a compilation should be named? Difficult decision. Well, fortunately I have quite some fresh music to listen to, while running my neurons hot. Excellent releases, I might add, and you will get fresh music by ['ramp] (No Sleep 'til Wilmersdorf), EFSS (Tidal Shift), K.Markov (Excerpt Two), Otarion (Under Surface), Akikaze (Blue Sky Events).

So it is done. The first phase of creating the syndae CD is finished, all submissions registered and send out to the jury. Thanks so much to all who participated in the call! Well, now the artists' works are done, the jury and I are up next. Preparations are on-going. And while an exciting part of the process is done, and the next one is up, I need some music to ease my heart and soul and mind. There's plenty of new stuff on my playlist, but also some events that are afoot. Have a joyful evening with tracks by Erik Wøllo (Threshold Point), Kuba (Animalia), John Kerr & Ron Boots (Juxtaposition Live), Captive Portal (What is?), Bob Holroyd (The Cage).

Back from a weekend family trip, I am up for a new edition of electronic music. And I hope you are, too. Quite some events coming up, so more pointers to where to go for fine live electronics on this show. If you are taking a trip or two, hopefully you have good weather on the way. I did not, and it's definitely no fun riding the highway with rain dropping your sight to about 50 metres. And if it does not work out, some of the events offer virtual tickets as well, so you can even go without going and "be there" even you cannot make it. Ok, I'm off for a longer weekend to catch up on sleep. But surely always listening to great music, like given to us on this editon by Saafi Brothers (The Quality of Being One Remixes Part 2), Code Indigo (Take the Money and Run), Ron Boots, Frank Dorittke & Harold van der Heijden (Derby!), Pyramid Peak (Anatomy), Ray Garrido (Spirare / Compilation).

This week marked thee sprint to the finish regarding the General Data Protection Regulation. Quite a fuss on most websites. I barely got as many mails as these past days, for updating the privacy policy or asking for re-confirmation to send mails and newsletters. And exactly todday marks the spot where the new European GDPR is set active. Well, I had to do some work on my own, finding out about some newsletter system needing an update to conform to GDPR. And finally it's kind of done. I'm curious what comes next. But for tonight, I need serenity, especially with respect to music. So quiet but still wonderful tracks on the show tonight, composed by Fringo Chills (...in the nature), Sevensy (Finally Infinite), Simon Wilkinson (Stateless), Steve Roach (Molecules of Motion), Kevin Lyons (Organised Vibrations).

What a crazy week we had. Somewhat temperaturs like summer, so I wet my shirts instantly. A visit to the dentist, and some painful two following days having "fun with my teeth". Of course, it happened on a public holiday, painkillers to the rescue. So forgive me when I chose rather easy going tracks for tonights show, giving some rest. Now, tomorrow on Saturday is E-Scape 2018. Some of you will be able to attend, some might not. Please, think of getting a VT for the event to support the great artists and to receive cool live recordings from that day. However your weekend goes, have a wonderful half hour time with this edition and tracks by Sverre Knut Johansen with David Helpling (The Vast Expanse), David Wright & DJ Mass (Walking with Ghosts EP), Synth.NL (Schallwelle - Die Besten aus 10 Jahren), Redox (Binary Forecast), Jim Ottaway (Yesterday Passing), mypan (perpetuum musica momentum).

While there is a ball sports hype everywhere on TV these days, this show is guaranteed to be free of it. Nevertheless, it provides a thrilling 30 minutes play. Brand new releases are up for this edition, sounds not to be missed. Where I had some sounds I could not miss lately, as well, coming from a parade of Harley Davidsons having a festival near where I stayed recently. An almost neverending crackling of these heavy machines passing by the only main road of the village. Amazing what sounds seem to please bikers and audience as well. And I definitely prefer the sounds provided by Escape Into (The Mirror), Klangwelt (The Incident), Uwe Reckzeh (Surreal Dreams), VoLt (E-Scape 2018), F.D.Project (E-Scape 2018).

When I was done with last weeks show, I knew immediately that I have to have some traditional, sequencing stuff up next. Well, easy to browse through my current catalog but not that easy to pick the right tracks for it. I think I found a pleasing selection for tonight. Also, the day for decision is coming closer, the votes are coming in for the syndae celebration CD. And I am quite curious about what the jury has to say about the submitted songs. So, while this all is very exciting, let's spice it up with magnificent tracks by ARC (Submissions 02), Klangzaun (Ignition), ['ramp] (No Sleep 'til Wilmersdorf), Johan Tronestam (Midgard), Cosmic Ground (Cosmic Ground IV).

It's always funny how things turn out different than one thinks. So, best seems to be to have low expectations and get surprised. A truism? Maybe. But it worked out for a planning session this week, so I am quite happy. And I am also happy with the progresson the syndae CD, where I am currently designing the cover. On this, I had some discussions with a designer, of course having some further ideas on details but overall was positive. It sounded honest as well. So only short time until I know about the tracks which made it to the CD. And then it goes to production. Meanwhile, there is an event coming up next week, which is the Scheunenparty in Ahlen, Germany. You still have a few days to register for the event, and tonight's edition starts with two teasers for the live acts, Karl Hefner & Hugh Lagerfeld (Live set B-Wave Festival) and moonbooter (EVIL 18DE). There is more great music to be heard, having tracks by Pretty Glass Folk (Lights), Blinky Blinky Computerband (Four in One), Escape Into (The Mirror), and Hollywood Burns (Invaders).

What kind of driver are you? Is this reflected in the music you listen to while driving? When driving to and from work, I do not care a lot. Maybe this is related to working on this podcast, as I tend to listen to many different styles and sounds these times. When I plan for a longer tour, though, I usually choose some more chilling albums. I am not sure, if aggressive music makes (or suites?) an aggressive driver. There is much going on in traffic, busy and annoying enough, so I prefer the music to relax and cool me down. Not too relaxing of course, don't want to fall asleep at the wheel. So, tonight's edition has the appropriate selection for my ride, as tomorrow I am on the road to Ahlen for the Scheunenparty. And here I found some great fitting tracks by Siddh and Ox7gen feat. Nathan Thomas (Soul Curry), Redox (Binary Forecast), Kaya Project and Noodreem (Zero Gravity), Pulselovers (The Shildam Hall Tap).

It's been a busy week, right after the Schwingungen Scheunenparty in Ahlen. And I am especially happy to have all votes in for the anniversary CD. There is lots to do, before the CD is finished. And soon I will post about the artists who will be on the CD. Of course, I will also have some of the tracks on the show, but not for this edition. I need some rest. Slow down the pace and recharge my batteries. Yes, it's ambient time. Not the most quiet ambient, though. Tracks that still tickle my brain and provide some energy. Have a wonderful evening with tracks by Meg Bowles (Evensong: Canticles for the Earth), In the Branches & Bluetech (Zero Gravity), Tikki Masala (Chilam Impacts 2), Glenn Sogge & Lutz Thuns (Wanderings), Three Fields (Tells).

While many independent artists nowadays publish their works via their own channels, there still are labels out there, helping out when artists focus on creating music only. Many of those labels use up-to-date media for propaganda and distribution, like social networks and online music stores. A special kind among them are netlabels, who usually offer music as name your price releases or for free. While this sounds like a non-business, their actual goal is to help getting music being heard. Providing a common channel for free artists to be discovered. Recently, it was netlabel day, hence, celebrating the existence and value of these labels. I often do have music from netlabels on the show, and most of tonight's edition are. With the exception of the first, which introduces the label Legacy of Thought to syndae with a single. Have some fun time with wonderful tracks by Time Away (Library of Souls), Abyssal Plains (One Synth), Axiom 23 (Origins), MacroNoise (Continuum), aeuum (Access Frame: Collectivity), Kumharas (Kaosmetric).

Excellently labeled sounds on

Last week, with help of a friend I, finalized cover and print for the upcoming syndae anniversary CD. All tracks are mastered and waiting to be shipped to the cd manufacturer. If all goes well, it will be completed early September and be presented for the first time at Spaceworks in Hagen on September 8th. I will be there and if you are, too, visit me for a chat and check out the CD. I'm quite proud it all has worked out so far. If not in Hagen, you will meet me in Detmold at the Electronic Circus end of September. Ok, enough advertisement, over to some cool music. It's all chill-out style because that's what I need with the temperatures we currently "enjoy." If there is no climate change, my hometown must have drifted south towards Africa. Oh, boy. So, no more talking, just relaxing. With great tracks provided by Branch Line Idols (Decision), Sasha Malkovich (Microcosmos Flashbacks), Espiralia Dub (Espiralia Primordial), Narson Nelson (EC4), Radiotuman (Sakhalin Tales), Stan Dart (MurInsel).

The chill is on
