A few weeks ago, I turned my G2 keyboard on to a frozen collection of lit LEDs. After taking it to a local shop (Condor in Seattle) recommended by the US distributor, I've been told that the main board is dead. Of course, they can't order a replacement. There's a possibility that the board could be sent to Sweden for repair.

So main question: has anyone ever swapped G2 boards? Specifically, I'd think about swapping one from a G2 engine, since those are cheaper. I saw a post claiming that the boards and firmware were identical, that it just checks for a keyboard on start up, so it seems possible.

Secondary question: how worried should I be about buying another G2 and having the same thing happen? If I can't fix this one, that's a lot of money down the drain. I don't really want to have it happen again. But I love this machine and there's nothing else like it.

Hi,

I think that the cable that connects the keyboard to the motherboard is attached with glue on the side of the motherboard. I imagine that it must be difficult to recover this cable without damaging it. It should be checked if there are other components fixed with glue. Same for the engine. It's all that comes to mind that could help you. I hope you find a solution.

I just had the same thought for a rehousing-project ... creating a diy nord MICRO modular g2.

the pcbs seem to be the same, and partwise there no difference but a elko-cap added on the eninge - still the microprocessors are labelled differently and so i guess it's a different firmware on them?
